Title: NYC Rents are STILL...
Post by: Rxxf on January 30, 2018, 10:05:50 PM
Getting on my last fucking nerves.
:19k:

I want to move.
I want to own property.

But then I remember that we kind of live in a "bubble" in NYC.
It's a melting pot of everything and everyone.  There's a sense of openmindedness.
I don't know if I can find that elsewhere.

I've visited many places, but that's enough to determine a move.
Taking a trip vs living, are two different things.

Ugh.

What's the average rent there?

There are lots of cities that are very open minded, like Melbourne or San Francisco

Yeah property ownership is where its really at

This renting shit, when you really break it down its almost pointless. :dead: You're consistently placing money into something that won't be yours.

but the trick is making SURE that where you buy the property is where youd like to stay forever. I really plan on making a decision soon - I'm getting harder on myself about just staying put. Not moving around so much. Stand in my mess a bit nsdndsnn

The average rent of NYC (one bedroom) is about $2,800.
It all depends on which area you live in though.

But def $1500+ in desirable neighborhoods closer to trains, and the city.

That's where I am at right now.

Trying to stay PUT.
Save that extra for the down payment to buy.

I just feel like if you don't have subsiding living or rent stabilization, you're spending a shit load of money that doesn't make sense, REGARDLESS if you can afford it or not.

!!!! I LOOOOVE NYC, but I do see myself eventually leaving for those same reasons (own property, raise a family, ect.). But when I visit other places, even back to my HOMETOWN, I'm always ready to get the fuck back to the city after a few days. There's just no better city on earth... literally. :dead: I like having options, feeling productive, and always having something to DO. Its gonna be really hard to leave..... and its most likely because Im younger and its fulfilling my needs and wants as of NOW, but I just dont know...

They say if you can live in NYC, you can live anywhere... but do you really WANT to live anywhere else? I just dont know.... I'm considering LA as a future possibility. I'll let you know if it's cute.

There's nothing wrong with it, I guess, depending on your goals and desires...
But NYC is a place where'd you find 2-3 roommates living an apartment spliting $3,800 for rent.

It makes me sick.
I can't with that.

but if you wanna own, get a rental property elsewhere. thats a good investment. Ownership is a fucking headache too tbh

NYC has kept me in a bubble, race wise.
I don't know what it is like to black and living in another city.

I hear my cousins talk sometimes (they live in Florida and other states) and they sound so bitter.
And at first, I didn't get it... but their bubble/experience is different than mine.
Don't get twisted, NYC has its nasty side in regards to race... but it is different.

MTA is a FOOL, but I vowed to not take ubers if I'm late in 2018. Im not paying just to get somewhere maybe 10 minutes quicker and sit in traffic. If Im late, Im just fucking LATE.

:udontlookok:
nnn

there's almost no point in catching an uber in manhattan if you're running late. to sit there and be annoyed and pissed in traffic

stand in ur mess , arrive late , make no excuses and just dont let it happen again

Good idea.
You know... I've thought about that.  White Plains, even.
I travel a lot for work, so I have to take that into consideration too.

I think I mainly want to save more and do things quicker.

A nice $1200-$1350 (max rent) is what I'd hope for, at this point.
Which is still a lot and annoying, but cheap for NYC.

I have to experience ATL a little bit more before I can give a fair opinion. Everyone who knows me closely has told me I would absolutely HATE it and not like the people, but the few days I was there, it was cute. I could see being tired n over it after a year though. Everything and everybody are on opposite sides of the the fucking city. And it's too major of a city for shit to be closing at like 2am.

Granted, Orlando is like that too. Honestly, that's what it gives... a larger country version of Orlando.

Yea, I might not use...

:udontlookok:
!!!!!!! :plzstop: :plzstop:

Which is why I'm moving this fall

How long were you there? It can get hot in Germany for a couple weeks sometime between June and August. But we've had disappointing summers too.
