It's an artist's job to keep up with trends to some extent, and put their own spin on it.

Whitney wasn't too good to hop on a Darkchild track

Michael was hee hee'ing it up over KNOCK

Am mean...it's not a new concept. Not even for the heavy hitters.

Make hot current music. Not some lazy popcorn mess.

Should Usher be calling in Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis or something? :omf:

People dragged GODni for hopping on Darkchild tracks and "tryna keep up" but he gave her some of her most memorable tea.
ppl want that SAME Confessions sound still
then they?re gonna say it?s dated

Uhhhhh Michael was a pop artist and he always made that kinda music.  Toni has always infused that kinda music in too so that's real moot. There's a difference between experimenting with different sounds but still remaining true to u and your artistry VS hopping on trends :dead:

He said Michael hopped on knock and I'm saying that's the kinda music he ALWAYS made because he's a pop artist.  It wasnt about him not trying different sounds.  Michael Jackson remained true to who he was and THAT'S the difference.  It Never seemed like Michael was trying sumn just to be popular.  He brought who he was to his records. I'm a Toni stan and I know for a fact that her older fans and critics accused her of trying to be hip and keep up with trends.

And you're wrong. Her style DID change from her debut - she began fully clothed singing R&B songs and uptempos and began stripping a bit during Secrets. Then said fuck it, took off ALL her clothes and hopped on knock with Darkchild for The Heat.

She was known for midtempos and ballads. Look at her most popular song for crying out loud.

Then hopped on Darkchild track and started mumbling a bit over KNOCK and getting much sexier as she focused less on growling vocals.

But the same can be said for Usher.

What do you think "U Make Me Wanna" was? A tribute to India Arie?

The track is pretty damn similar to "You're Makin Me High".

He's a pop artist.

Goddess RODE this mess for filth :scrumptious:

Queen sounded right at fucking HOME to me. :blessed:
People's disdain with this had nothing to do with anything other than this is terrible.  Try again :kii:
A lot of the conversation had a LOT to do with the style of music itself.

Note the title of this Wendy segment.

If ur gonna discuss sumn and expect to be taken seriously, never post a Wendy Williams video.  She's infamously the most uninformed person ever.  I'm not clicking this :dead:
Im very knowledgeable about Toni music, even moreso than u I'm sure, and no one was tripping over that because of anything other than it was terrible

Apparently u do if ur posting clips from wendy williams. A person who knows nothing about music and musical artists outside of the gossip that surrounds them.  Toni braxton has multiple rap infused tracks, so who would be surprised byb that terrible song she put out other than someone who doesnt know wtf they're talking about? Just sit this one out :plzstop:

There would be no We Belong Together, Be Without You etc if Usher didn?t make the sound popular
and Chris, Omarion, NE-YO, Trey, Jason Derulo etc would be singing Heal The World type stuff and dressing like Smooth Criminal If Usher didn?t come through in the 90s and 2000s and mix the MJ performance style with sex appeal

Like no one ever says oh this sounds like an Usher song! he copied Usher's dancing and style!
He's successful but unremarkable, he doesn't stand out
Ive definitely seen Chris, Justin, Mario, Omarion etc be called for copying Ushers dancing and style
I haven't
They're men, they all dance like the other, there's not a wide list of options for Male R&B singers to dance differently. :dead:
no they dance like Usher, he came before them. and yes there?s other male artists they could look up to like Ginuwine, and Sisqo
But Usher just kinda dominated lolz
ok ray.

Let?s just let Chris weigh in:
Breezy is carving an indelible musical mark similar to the ones left by greats like Usher, whose classic nod to Clockwork Orange in ?My Way,? and beanie phase in ?U Remind Me? Brown still cites as inspirations, even as the two have become collaborators (?New Flame?) and friends. Presented with the mind-boggling calculation that he has achieved more Top 75 singles than Usher in half of his career span, Brown shrugs off the numbers and deflects the credit. ?If it wasn?t for Usher, then Chris Brown couldn?t exist,? he maintains. ?When I would look at Usher, I would be like ?F**k, he has it.? The only other guy that I looked at like that was Michael Jackson.?

If Bey & Hov can hop on a Migos written record then why can?t uncle Usher young thug it up for 8 tracks?
Because Beyonce SELLS it till you believe it
If anyone else did Apeshit & Formation it would be laughable :dead:
Usher just doesn't have that conviction and aura like she does.
That's what i said.  Beyonce has definitely hopped on a trend or two but she just ELEVATES it someway or somehow. Usher is nothing like beyonce

WOW Miguel is kinda PREACHING here:
QuoteUsher is a friend. Vocally there?s no one fucking with Usher right now in mainstream R&B. I?m always paying attention to his riffs, ?cause he?s always pushing himself. I?ve never heard Usher do one take of vocals the same. He?s insane

Damns NE-YO kinda said what he said here:
I feel that without Usher, there would be no me, there would be no Chris Brown, there would be no Trey Songz. He paved the way for us, so for him to get that honour was kind of special for me. I feel that he actually deserved it.?
