If it IS a race thing
Wouldn't it make sense that Adele would be slaying?
She's catering to her racial demographic :dead:
Which happens to have the largest population
But I feel like RnB artists have been trying to cater to different demographics and ultimately failed.
Look at Usher and Chris :dead:
gave up RnB imo to pursue a bigger crossovers and now Usher is shelved and Chris is begging for pre-orders
sTank and Dry are fighting
Jeremih didn't even promo :dead:
And even tho RnB and Hip-Hop are close, they're not the same musical demographic, it's a mix of races :dead:
so a lot of the features these RnB artists thought were helping them all these years were really hurting them imo
"Oh you want a hit single, throw a rapper on it!" (Bey DIL)
If it's a race thing then maybe we should care about the EBT awards and Soul Train awards, but.... our biggest black stars don't even take those awards serious :dead:
RnB artist have to get back to the Usher Confessions era, the last true RnB era imo
He put his all into RnB music and gave an actual ALBUM. Not scrambling for a feat here or a hot producer there. And cater to THEIR demographic, which is mostly PoC. And voila! He went diamond.
And don't get me wrong there are some whites that like RnB too, but don't market to Susie and think she's gonna buy your alberm.
she's just gonna wait until Nick Jonas or Justin Bieber takes your sound and go buy that :dead:
It just made me think why were we squabbling over Bey and Rih being 24 and 26 on that list when Trailor and 'Dele were perched :plzstop:

I'm sick of this topic. Just focus on putting out what you feel is great music and secure some sort of touring power.

No promoter is going to want to book any artist that can only open with 20k.And it's only getting worse.

Am mean, to me it's just the music quality
I bought 'Dele's album
I haven't bought a black artists album in awhile. I'm buying Tweet on Jan 26 tho
'
I don't think it's a race thing to be quite honest. It's the quality of music. It's like this, if you're not putting anything that's of any quality or something that someone can truly relate to, then they're not going to buy it. Simple as that. Plus, focus on writing really good songs instead of trashy material. Step outside of that ghetto box and do something innovative for once. Think about artists like Stevie Wonder, MJ, etc. Look up to them for inspiration instead of the hood. That's no fucking shade at all.
I'm happy that LiAnne LaHavas got nominated for a Grammy for Blood and hope she wins. I was hoping that Green and Gold would get a nomination. The other problem is that urban radio don't really like supporting "true" black artists anymore either. It seemed to be so infiltrated with hip hop and when it's too much of that people grow tired of it and want something different.

I'm not enabling whites to feel superior to anyone else. It's the truth of what goes on behind the scenes in urban radio.. I know a few people who work at a number of radio stations here in NYC and they ARE black by the way and have told me some horrific stories of what radio programmers do to urban artists. Especially the one that are considered R&B.

Most adele fans are people who are like: "I dont like soul music but i love adele!"
Its definitely a combination of EVERYTHING imo. Race, the QUALITY of music, label support, public interest ect. Its hard for me to only place the blame on race alone when I know a lot of these R&B artists aren't releasing quality music and albums.. :uhh: At one point, R&B artists were the trailblazers. Music is constantly evolving and R&B hasnt really evolved in over a decade.... and I think that is the MAIN issue. The gorls are stuck in the past. The plain dislike for certain artists and so forth. It's not just urban radio either. And it's not just black artists. White artists get very similar treatment as well. Especially with pop radio stations. The entertainment industry as a whole can be extremely shady. I'm just going to leave it at that. What most people on this board don't know is that I actually work within the industry and have been for an entire year as an actor and through that medium I learned a lot of things. It goes beyond race and skin color. Most radio programmers tend to latch onto who's hot at the moment and drop other artists and talk shit about them behind their backs. All it took was for me to attend one event where there were TONS of radio programmers and DJs and so forth. They are EXTREMELY shady. Grin in artists faces during interviews and then talk TONS of shit about them behind their backs. I'm going to leave it at that. That's why some artists don't really fuck with radio programmers like that.

A Lil Wayne feature clearly aint enough to get by anymore... so whats NEXT?
!!!!!!!
perfectly said sis
"But oh! Adele had promo!"
I just wish the gorls would acknowledge the fact that their faves are putting out trash, ain't nobody gonna buy it if it's promoted anyway :dead:
That coupled with the other issues is why they ain't selling shit!

People should be able to have a fucking discussion on this fucking board without having to resort to insults. I'm not going to stoop to people's level.
I think people are exasperated by you because you always play captain save a honky, whilst putting down blacks.
Ghetto? Hood?
What about the plenty of R&B artists that released albums recently that weren't those things?
It's really off putting
I'm talking about artists who have to run to a rap feature. Hun. It's not about race. Trust me on that one. Ghetto, Hood. Yes I said it because R&B didn't use to be about all of that stuff. I am not even playing captain save a "h" word. Please don't fucking use that word. I don't refer to anyone as any type of derogatory word at all. No matter what race they are. I'm just speaking on what radio programmers say behind artists backs. When they're not around and stuff. You'd be surprised. And it's not just urban radio who does it either. pop radio does very similar shit. That's all I will say about that.

Whats wrong with a rap feature?
If it fits, it fits.
And I'll say the word 'Honky' seeing as you throw out 'monkey' this and 'nigger' that.
Rap features are LATE and in the end have hurt RnB artists :kii: :kii:
Am mean... Even with Janet ... Why did sis NEED to put J Cole on that song?
To reach a younger fan base? .... but why?
Adele has no features :dead:
But yawl complain about her artistry
I just see it as a contradiction.
I know Tweet's not coming with no features, all her creativity. She's getting my coin. I'm supporting that.

I never use the word monkey or nigger. A rap feature doesn't really fit in with R&B especially in this climate where R&B needs to seriously change it's format in order for people to take it more seriously. Radio programmers and DJs be saying a lot of shady shit about R&B music like how they're not being innovative enough or serious enough. And here's the big one: They even say that R&B artists don't take their time or effort with making quality music. They have even shaded a number of songwriters as well. That's the point that I'm making. Urban radio programmers and DJs claim they support the artists and the craft when reality-wise they don't. I think the words honky, monkey, and nigger are just disgusting and repulsive. I even cringe when I hear people around here in NYC use the words. Like every five words. It's sickening.

I think public interest and label support both go back to the color of her skin, IMO
I think it might play a part.... But I feel like it all comes back down to the music. R&B just isn't interesting anymore to the general public or profitable in 2015 and I don't think that's really the label's fault... It's just business. It's hard to say it's only about race when you see hip hop on top and constantly reinventing itself.
ch... jay, if that's true, I wish ISIS would bomb Hot 97 or breakfast club next tbh :rudone:
