Depends on how long they've been together. They could break up after a year. That's a big investment to put in something that might not last. But after 2 or 3 years he shouldn't charge her because by then you should kinda know.
Her being there is ultimately adding to his expenses and in my opinion that house isn't big enough for a couple. Now he's gotta accommodate all her shit. So yeah she should pay :overit:

being someone's landlord and partner can't be an easy arrangement.
Didnt think about this. Yeah this would be a nightmare.

so if we're in love and you miss the rent, I evict you? :uhh:
I can see him making her pay some bills, that way its not directly to him
and it still is helping him out and carrying her weight

It is not that small boy. I'm sure it's enough space for a man cave if he wanted.
I would never ask a woman for rent. Being financial stable I think it's the man's responsibility to provide shelter. She can pay the utilities, groceries and other misc bills but not rent/mortgage.
Some see it different but that's just how I was raised.

What do you think the $800 is for? :ummwhat:
800 including the bills sounds fair to me.
If they got married and had kids the situation would be different.
He's right
s
It you have to charge your significant other, then they aren't your significant other :dead:
A real man would just tell her to pocket that money, and lets start saving for our joint future. Let's both put 800 a month into a joint account.
n
this gender role mess is so antiquated. He has paid off his home and has equity in it now. Why should someone who he is not married to benefit from that?

Have you ever dated a woman cause...
:plzstop:
S
he's wrong and it speaks to his character. They're a couple... she's not some random college kid renting out a bedroom. Sddd The point of them moving in together is to cut/split expenses. He's banking off of her.... the rent she pays to him would basically cover his half of the home expenses. :dead: She might as well just pay a few extra hundred more and get her OWN house. :dead:
I'd breakup, for sure. D
I could see if he had a mortgage, but if the house is paid off, this is a some lowkey fuckboy stuff
Quote from: heir. on April 11, 2020, 10:52:06 AM
he has every right to ask for rent if she's living there - especially considering they're not married.
i think if this scenario included a man being asked to pay rent, people wouldn't blink an eye about it.
and may even side eye him a bit for moving into his woman's crib (see: todd tucker, the "opportunist")
but ultimately this is mixing business and pleasure.....which is never the greatest idea.

The freeloading ass girl is in the wrong.
Unless I'm misunderstanding this, he doesn't have "rent" cause owns his home right?
Charging your other half rent just seems tacky to me. Maybe a conversation about how bills were gonna split moving forward would have made sense before hand. Cause if you're building towards marriage/family why would one of you be paying other rent?..you're basically paying to be in your relationship :dead:
Quote from: heir. on April 11, 2020, 01:11:19 PM
it could be the formality of it all that's throwing people off from the idea.
"he's charging her $800 rent" sounds a lot harsher than "she pays the cable and electric/gas bill, he handles everything else."
even if those two bills come to $800.
seems like she's a working adult if she was paying her own rent beforehand. so why not contribute to the household.
but i get why people are thrown off by the scenario. A) it's a woman and B) the whole arrangement seems super formal.
Now this I agree with.
I think regardless of the gender being a tenant of your partner while living with them is awkward
if she was charging him rent it would still be wrong
and what if an unplanned pregnancy happens and she cant work?
just sounds like this would be set up to fail
I wouldn't charge my woman rent but she could take a bill or 2
Thank God I'm gay

really crazy that how something is said or presented can change a person's reception of it entirely
but it's real. not what u say, but it's how u say it
thinking before u speak is a legit skill.

Knowing how to comprehend is a legit skill too.

those are not the same thing. Rent is usually paid to the landlord/owner etc
sometimes first and last month of staying up front before you can even move in
a bill can be for anything: gas/heating electricity, cable/internet/phone etc
those are things that can get shut off, but can be reconnected
missing the rent gets you completely evicted
Whether he calls it rent or cocaine money
She's giving him 800 cash
As she fcking should

Exactly! It's best to both move into a new space if someone has an issue paying "rent" to live with someone.
The guys is right but it's telling that he'd wanna charge her..
uhhh I would gladly pay that fucking 800 dollars for a house after paying 1800 for an apartment , he has every damn right to ask that of her.

I wouldn't move in if I were her without a lease tho..
