They really can't be compared. Whitney is a SOUL singer, Mariah is NOT. Mariah does things with her voice that Whitney wouldn't dare to and vice versa. It's really a matter of preference and I would say that Mariah is more versatile. LET'S NOT act like Mariah is to be shitted on when it compares to Whit b/c by that logic....a lot of ppl argue the same thing about Brandy.

She can give me soft (Underneath The Stars / GTFO), vocal stacking (The Roof), wide upper range (Butterfly), deep low notes (You and I), insane melisma and transitions (Heartbreaker). She can give me hip hop, sexy, some of the things Whitney doesnt really give. So I can see why some folks will say MC is better to them.

I can agree with this.
It ties in to Mariah being a better artist. Whit' couldn't pull off all of the concepts Mariah did.

LOL y'all gworls love to hate the MF Queen. Ummmmmm yessss the Whistle register is not easy or to be played and Mariah used to transition flawlessly. Her backgrounds and stacks are also rich and defined, which Whitney didn't delve into as much. Mariah's voice was just a little more versatile in my opinion....the way she can skate over a hip hop beat and add color to a song is one of the things I love most. I still would say Whit is proab the better vocalist tho but it does come down to preference.
