But what about people who try so hard to act like they can't relate to the hood?

I didnt grow up in the "hood" myself, but if you're a black person there is a 99.99% chance you have family in the hood, your parents or grandparents live/lived in the hood at some point of their lives. As a people we come from recent poverty. Some people move from the hood, or never lived in the "hood" but also try to remove themselves from the culture.

Google Beyonce's childhood homes, yet no one ever accuses her or Solange of this. People take the Black card away from people who act as if because they didn't grow up in the hood they have no concept of what Collard Greens are.

but I wanna talk to you guys in here
because you guys have to realize that there ARE actually Hillary & Carlton Banks out there who honestly don't know or view it that way because of upbringing.

and the reason is, like Rig said, it's ok to be proud of where you come from, a struggle builds a person up, but to glorify the NEGATIVE attributes .... and try to make it the basis of an entire culture. Well yea, you're gonna have some blk ppl feel very alienated from that.

The "hood" & the "projects" are not synonymous words to "where blk ppl live". And THAT's where the disconnect comes in. That's why every generation blk ppl take less pride in their mess.

It's subconsciously assigned stereotype onto yourself. And I've seen it on this board. Von actually got attacked for not liking Watermelon

Like ... we laugh at the shit Kamala does, but that's what the general public wants. Does nobody watch CNN. They ask questions like "what does it take to get the black vote?", or "how are they gonna get black out to vote!"

And then they cut to ....



and then blk ppl turn around and wonder why this issue exists. I guess it must really make ppl feel good and proud that their entire perceived contribution to society they are forced to live in is summed up by how seasoned a fckn porkchop is. I know for sure it makes white ppl feel good. 

To me blk isn't the "hood". BLK is resilience & creativity! The same way a new dance or spin on language can be created, is the same way a cure for cancer can be created. And that's the power of blk ppl

not all the superficial stuff ppl rep about the hood.

Cause trust and believe, our reality right now is ... if the police officer does't kill us, then we might get gunned down in our own "hood". So I mean rep all day, but I'd start changing some mindsets as well

Bent is right...

This is what I have been saying. It's not just about being from the hood that makes it special

It's the subculture. The creativity. The lingo. Like....

I've never held a gun, sold drugs, or been arrested in my life...Nor did I surround myself with people who took joy in those things.

But I'm all about my hood culture. And there's an ART to representing and embracing it

All of my Black coworkers who were raised in the suburbs know where I'm from and that I love to rep it.
But they also know that I'm smart, approachable, ethical, a joy to be around and that I'm about my business. I can be all those things.

And who gon check me bew?
