It's not the same.

A white woman with blond hair and blue eyes is seen as the standard of beauty in America.

Then why would anyone blackfish?

Are people like Kim actually helping to level that same playing field you spoke of? Blurring the lines a bit, you know, flipping the script real ally-ish?
I think the issue is people like Kim can move in and out of black spaces and profit, then by Monday morning she can still benefit from
her white privilege, she's getting the best of both worlds.
Why does she get praise she donning black features and trends, when black women are looked down on for the exact same things she gets magazine covers for? whereas black women can't move in and out of white spaces like that.
When white women get bored of their own beauty standards, out come the bronzers, tanners, crimped weaves, braids, full lips etc. They get to and can  look "trendy for the season" when for black women their features, fashions, bodies, hairstyles etc aren't trends.

Agreed! That's what I was saying here.

QuoteI think we're mad at the public response not the girls themselves wearing their braids. And the latter is only an issue when the girl is famous and admired enough to garner a positive response in the media while Black women in those same spaces in the media are vilified. And that's what Funky was saying about being mad a the media.

To me, again, I feel like it's a thing we're only bothered by celebrities who do it. Or anyone who can "profit" from it, or be praised in some fashion like you mentioned. Because I really can't see Jamal being offended by Kyle in some busted ass dreadlocks (white dreads be lookin bad can't lie) I feel like in common people land it's like "ok, emulate us then!" Because Kyle is gonnna get looked at sideways in the job interview the same as Jamal tbh.

I meant that blond hair and blue eyes is "a" Standard or beauty in America.

Its kinda arguable whether it's "THEE" standard in 2021 ... especially among certain populations

And a lot of these non black women are "mixed-fishing" in reality . Creating a look of being more "exotic " and cashing in on a trend of mixed and racially ambiguous people being more popular and visible in the media these days.

Make no mistake . Most  of these women are not trying to look unambiguously black. They want that midpoint look ... of black mixed with something else.

Here's the issue. Kim is not Black. At all. Her momma ain't black, daddy ain't black... grandma grandpa .. no one . U can climb up her family tree for generations and not one negro will appear. Fnnfnfnfnf and it's evident in her appearance . She's just armenian. Dassit.

So for her , and her sister khloe as non black women ... to sit around and play dress up as women of black descent . It's just not their place to do it

And for women who are of actual black/African descent ...whether they're mixed or not .. who've experienced the brunt of stereotyping and unfair labeling for wearing the same styles that were created by their community...

It's a slap in the face . Kim , and women like her, hop IN and OUT of blackness as they see fit. They'll get black for one occasion and strut their Armenian stuff for the next. For those who can't do that....I hope you can see why it's offensive.

I dunno I think Jamal look at Billy sideways and go about his business, it's when Billy starts talking about it being fashion choice and starts being ignorant about it is when Jamal would get mad about it.

Lemme just watch the mess

And khloe with her kinky-curly and afro wigs. :omf:

People just have eyes and common sense.

Not some random unwarranted vendetta against the kardashians lol

theyre super famous so of course whatever they do will garner attention and criticism from those who take issue.
cant throw on a kinky curly wig in front of 15 million people and not expect 1 or 2 to have an issue with it. people are gonna speak up.

Question. So in the way that 4 White people in Armenia used to get their hair braided, and 4 Black people in Australia have naturally blonde hair........ is (insert female singer with blonde hair here) wearing it to appeal to a broader/different audience the same as Kim wearing braids to appeal to a certain audience?
who Faith? Mary? Whitney?

I get it that some ppl may not find her antics offensive.

However, nothing is more irritating then when ppl suggest you be quiet or blind to the obvious. If Kim wanna cosplay in black girl aesthetics, fine. If people want to point it out and have conversations about it, fine. Sometimes people want to vent and bring social awareness, and nothing is wrong with that.

There is a history and pattern. It's not a one off. She know how woke sistas feel and it hasn't changed her. Black men straight and gay have coddled her along the way.

In many cases it's also, unfortunately , buying into the idea that those looks are "better" or more beautiful. Often times, these women are VICTIMS whether they know it or not.

It'll never be the same as a white woman saying she wants to be Laquesha for the weekend . It goes WAY deeper than just a fun aesthetic.

I also weighed this, and wanted to go deeper in one of my posts but I'm working and on mobile so ain got time for that, but the appropriation vs. assimilation angle
right.

Such a big difference.

Not to be underestimated. I know for a fact that entire family identities can buried under the rug and lost just cuz assimilation and survival is or was clearly a top priority . It's powerful and obviously sad.

perfectly stated

we don't  all have to think the same way.

if one black person is not offended there's really no sense in trying to force them to be offended by something.
to me that's kinda unintentionally anti-black in itself....tryna tell them how they should feel simply cuz they're Black.
......especially when it includes derogatory insults and name calling

same goes for those who are offended by blackfishing. u cant tell them that what they feel is wrong. their perception is their reality of the situation and if the concern is at least somewhat reasonable ...let them do them.

part of having love for each other is being able to have conversations without dismissing one another/each other's feelings and concerns so quickly

once we start dismissing one another  and telling each other to STFU that's when things get very nasty...very quickly.
