for me personally it was OTHER people asking and tryna tell me who i was.
that made me wanna find out more of what my background is.
i kinda knew and cared almost NOTHING about race before
yall know firsthand that i had to literally learn about racism, colorism..."good" hair, featurism.....anti-blackness...all in my adulthood
cuz it just wasn't talked about liek that in my family. in my world everyone was just people and everyone got along.
and that lady next to me on the plane was just being conversational and polite LOL.
but i quickly found out this world is SUPER focused on little shit that makes us different.
hair, bone structure, skin, noses, even got damn skin UNDERTONES . pointing out and examining the smallest shit
like sdnnsdnsdnsndsn wat the FUCK?

its nice to know all of who you are but i think its great to focus on the COMMONALITIES u share with ppl
a big commonality for us.... being blackness.
if someone looks at me and says "you're a black man". which PLENTY of people can see clear as day.... they would be absolutely correct.
if someone looks at me and says "you're black, but i think there's something else in ur lineage", they would also be correct.
but i'd honestly have to be in the mood to sit and explain my 2nd great grandmother was from Lithuania. i'd have to be feeling very fun and ANCESTRY-ish that day. ssfsffssf
other than that they'll be getting my most common response to questions or curiosity which is "im black, both of my parents are black"
and that's not a lie.
simple and to the point
