A tip should be a bonus for good service. Delivery and good quality of food should be guaranteed. It's time for employers to pay their employees instead of counting on costumers to do it for them. Why would I pay a tip if you are late? Why in a restaurant get a big tip if the waiter is giving me an attitude and the food is cold? A tip should be a reward. I think they should get minimal wage, there need to be good rules about this in the states to make sure people get paid what they deserve.
Periodt!!!
This is a dumb mindset for gig workers like DD, GrubHub, etc... I do door dash sometimes in my free time and almost everything that you mentioned is out of the driver's control. If your food is late how is that the driver's problem? After they accept an order they have a certain timeframe to pick it up and to deliver it and if they take too long it will be unassigned from them and given to another driver. So that means if your food is really late other people either ignored it or the restaurant took too long to make it. I can't help it if your food is an hour+ later than the original delivery time if I just got it and delivered it immediately right after... Same thing applies to if your food is cold. Same thing applies if your order is wrong... We deliver closed/sealed bags we don't know if your order is wrong. The apps literally tell you when people has picked up your food so if it's an hour after it says they picked it up than it might be the driver's fault but other than that it's out of our control. I've delivered something before 3 hours after the original delivery time and the lady was pissed at me and I told her I just got this order I can't help how long it took. She didn't care she still complained about me and gave me a bad rating 🤷🏿♂️ after my horrible experiences I just stop caring about customers and just drop food off and go on. My acceptance rate is like 40 percent now bc I decline so many orders and I've seen some people with <10 percent acceptance rates
it's not a dumb mindset, you BOTH have perfectly valid points
yea, a lot of stuff the delivery people can't help as its out of their control but they unfairly get blamed for it, but on the same token all delivery drivers represent the company as a whole so its not really the customer's job to parse and pick out who exactly is to blame for a poor service experience.
it literally falls down to the actual company. they need to hold drivers AND RESTAURANTS accountable more and ALSO give drivers more of an oppurtunity to defend themselvesvagain unfair/unwarranted blame regarding things that are out if their control.
but as far as pay, drivers are paid for every delivery. i tip. i belive in tipping. but uts simply not something thats OWED to you simply because you're doing a job. your PAYCHECK is whats owed to you. my tip is for recognizing great service. period.
That's the thing the driver's can't complain to anyone bc they are not an employee of the company. Rude restaurants and customers can tear us a new one and we can't do anything but decline the orders from that point forward. How does one provide great service when all they do is deliver? I don't even see most of the people I deliver to bc we just leave it at the door and go.
These tik tokers are just doing these posts to go viral at this point bc almost everybody is just declining orders until they feel like one is worth their time. The only people with real complaints are the people who are waiting on their food for extremely long times bc people aren't picking them up. Unfortunately this issue will never be resolved just like waitresses pay. People are clearly getting paid doing these app or people would've stopped doing them. There's times I can work 30 mins and make a quick $50 and other times I can work 2 hours and only make like $20. I've never understood why gig workers complain about pay seeing that we don't have to take the orders. Nobody is forcing anyone to take these $2.50 20 miles round trip orders yet people go online and complain about them like customers know that's all they'll get paid for delivering their food
exactly !!!!!!!!
you get paid per delivery regardless. some of these delivery drivers acting like if they dont get tipped, they werent paid at ALL. and if the delivery distsnce aint worth your time & effort just don't take it. nothing wrong wit that.
the issue is that everything is so automated. i did delivery at a point and it was like pulling teeth to get someone on the phone for assistance as an employee/contractor
as far as the service aspect, it really comes down to the specific customer understanding what in the drivers control and what isnt. and unfortunately many dont understand that. but also, unfortunately, its not their responsibility to.
like i said earlier, it all comes down to the company needing to holding the restaurants as accountabke as the drivers. if a restaurant promises a certain time the food will be ready and then goes way passed that, they should be penalized.
