I honestly don't know what I would do

i was woken up by a loud bang noise that definitely sounded like it came from inside my apartment. I automatically move towards my window that faces the street cause i think it could be a good escape if someone rushes into my room at any given moment. After 1-2 min i think that maybe it was just a nightmare, but then i hear it again. A loud BANG. I dial 911 and open up my blinds and carefully open the window to possibly escape to the street. After i turn away and back to the window all of the sudden a man is standing in front of me and yells ,,hey!" or something along those lines. I dont remember much but it seemed as if he was gonna attack me, so i rush back into my corridor and towards the apartment door. I was shaking, so took me a while to unlock it. I felt like the first person to get killed in SCREAM and i didnt want to end up like that! I make it into the building corridor/ stairway, tell the police to come. In the meantime the guy breaks my windows i could hear it and see it later. I then see him walk outside with a fucking street sign in his hand (saw this from inside). I honestly thought he was gonna kill me as im trying to escape by running up the stairs like the dummies in the movies xD so then he was gone, the police arrives. I assume he was never inside the apartment, unless he got in through the windows as i was hiding in the building staircase. But maybe he did want to break in initially? I dont know. But the cops thought i was a drugged lunatic and that my story didnt add up.

Sorry to hear about this. The important thing is you're ok. Yeah you should move. May i ask are you male or female? I never recommend females taking basement/first floor apartments for this reason. Please invest into an affordable security systems, they have where you can watch Shit from your phone. It definitely comes in handy.

I been through this as well, my situation was a little different cause it happened in the daylight and i didnt stay alone.

I went to the police station again to show them the photos of how my door is damaged (which i only saw after they left), which means he probably tried to break in. I think now that the loud bangs was him kicking my apartment door full force. The police said: well, the colleagues said its just a damage of property (the windows) so thats what it is. Meaning they are not looking at it as a potential/ attempted break in. Incompetent fuckers.

when i was in berlin  i found out ppl in my hotel had their rooms broken into .. the police there did not give a FUCK they came with their ak 47s laughed and left.. i was a bit shocked

no more ground level apartments if u can help it

they're usually more affordable (at least here in America ... not sure about over the pond) but the trade off is massive . Especially depending on the area you're in.

Maybe get roommates in a higher level unit if cost is the challenge . Safety is always #1

i suggest one of those and maybe staying with a good friend for a few days, until you feel mentally safe to go back home
