I highly doubt that it would've been smooth sailing for her to get in touch with Beyonce the day before her album is released. Getting in touch with Beyonce period Im sure is not the easiest thing to do. It's really not the same. The "damage" cant be done and then we say Kelis could've done this instead. That aint right. I do think Kelis went in way too hard here, but hey, I never had my art and music taken from me and then have that be used to make more money off my talent and not given a lil courtesy call, so I cant tell her how to react to what in her eyes may seem to be like another way she's being disrespected and overlooked.
being that Bey legally got the song cleared, it doesn't make a difference if she got to her before the album released or not. If she wants to know why Bey did it how she did, or whatever she wants to know. It's gonna be even harder now probably that she's out here slandering the girl's name
Hell she probably could've worked out a deal. Just because a song or album is out doesn't mean credits can't be added

And Kelis prob doesn't care about any of that either. Why do ppl think Kelis is only ranting because she wants credit or she wants public recognition or money? The girl literally just said 'Hey, a phone call would be nice'. That's all she wanted.  :kii:
that's not all she said though
She's out here calling Bey a thief, saying only sings about Black empowerment and doesn't "walk the walk" etc
All over not getting a phone call?

this is courtesy enough for someone that had no input aside from laying down a vocal (that bey didnt use)

and tbh i kinda didn't like that fas did not include big freedia's name in that single as a feature.

it really rubbed me the wrong way, especially considering that he's a huge reason i even listened to it.
he was a huge part of that song and brought it to life.

fas gives serious capitalist teas sometimes ...freedia is a sweetheart and he's def the one who's just happy to be on board (which is totally OK if that's how HE feels) he's a gay black man that has exposure he wouldn't have had if he wasn't included. and that's good enough for him. as someone who loves him, i side eyed tf out of fas but i understand.

but kelis is saying fuck that shit.

Quote from: Brazil in the A on July 28, 2022, 10:32:02 PMthere's really no question about whether legally/technically fas "owed" anything to kelis before releasing this. the answer is flat out no if kelis has no rights to the song.

so we can get that out the way. almost pointless in discussing that.

but i think the reason this entire mess is actually picking up steam is because fas does push that whole "women empowerment! we allz we gotz!" tea.

kelis's question clearly is "sis, you are all about this and that and you couldn't even reach out to say hey girl, love ur song and imma use it for my alber! props to u luv.  :) "

and if pharrell is for a fact doing this to mess with kelis that makes it even worse - using fas as some sort of vessel to launch a tea against another woman.

optics.

Let me just put it this way.

Afro, if you ever have to give up your rights to your music that you own for whatever reason, and I got a hold of it and wanted to sample Machine, you're not gonna find out the day the album is released. I'm gonna pick up the phone and try to reach out to you and let u know I was inspired by your song, cause that to me is just the right thing to do. Regardless of who produced the song. Matter of fact, I'm gonna let u even hear the song I recorded and see if u like it.

Apparently some of the other members here wouldn't give 2 shits about you and would use ur work (because u no longer own it) and make money off ur art with no regards to what u contributed. I have way too much class for that.

!!!! Why wasn't he given a feature?

Listen, Beyonce is at a stage in her career now where she can get away with doing certain things like this. It is what it is. 19yr old Beyonce prob would've def made sure Kelis was informed about a sample and maybe even hear the song. And I cant fully blame her for that. Her human aspect has been long gone. Even with how she interacts with her fans.

Thief was prob a strong word, but I can see how someone using my work without telling me would cause Kelis to use the word "thief". And as for the black empowerment, walk the walk mention, she didn't say anything wrong. Bey knows what the industry is like. Lots of artists dont own their shit. If the artist on the song is Kelis (and all dem background checks u doing should let u be well aware that Kelis and the Neptunes are at odds), if u decide to sample her song, a nice gesture of a convo would've been cute. Not randomly finding out about it on twitter, while these men have the last laugh. So yeah, I can also see why Kelis would feel it goes against female empowerment and being a feminist in a male dominated industry which Beyonce proudly proclaims she's all about.

If anything, maybe its because she's this "flop" why Beyonce didn't reach out. If she was sampling Toni Braxton and she no longer her work (due to her bankruptcy), she prob would've called. Doesn't make Beyonce look any better here, sweetie.

RAY7

It seems like she didn't call any of the ppl she sampled. It wasn't personal to Kelis. Twinkie Clark posted a video thanking Bey for sampling the Clark Sisters
So did Robin S. I guess Kelis should've been special

None of this is gonna help Kelis move anything. Beys album is #1 literally everywhere right now  :letsmessfag: no one that was interested or likes Beyonce gives a shit about this. or the other "incidents" we dont care.  :jackiessales:
