Quote from: Brazil in the A on July 28, 2022, 10:14:34 PMim watching funk's video now and he is saying exactly what i thought a lot of people would think.

"she should be flattered! out of all the people in the world she chose YOU to sample!"

like he literally said that out loud.

im sorry but funky is super simple minded sometimes.

Quote from: Brazil in the A on July 28, 2022, 09:14:28 PMwhat's so interesting about this is fas is the super commercial pop star

kelis is the edgy alternative weird gor

but then again thats why many could see this as "kelis gor just be glad u were included"

people may expect her to be excited about something like this but kelis doesnt strike me as the type whos just happy about any type of recognition or exposure

principle is gonna be reign supreme with a gor like her

Very. Saying she lost an opportunity where she could've been in a music video with her or some sorts. If Kelis cared about all of that, she wouldnt have went to social media to do all of that. Of course most artists are gonna be fine with it, but hey, Kelis aint most artists. And not every artist cares to sing praises to Bey just because. Although her rant is over the top, if ppl really just ask themselves "why is she so upset?" and take Beyonce out of the equation, they will clearly see.

Hey bby sis. I know you have no rights to this song im about to record and you have no actual say so. But just a heads up ima be sampling this tea that Pharrell produced and wrote.

Like... does that really make sense?

she has no rights or ownership.

Lets put it this way. U painted a famous photo, on some Mona Lisa type level. U go broke, filed for a bankruptcy, gave up ur rights to ur painting and someone bought it. 10 years down the road, some new famous painter did replicas of ur painting and made millions off it. U didn't know anything about it until it was all over social media and ppl tagged you about it. But u dont own the painting anymore, so u dont need to be asked. Mind you, this same new painter was perched beside you at award shows and have been around you multiple times. U know them. My work is making u $$. U dont think it would've been nice for this new painter to at least give u a call and say "Hey, inspired by your work. Wanted to keep ur legacy alive and do something dope with it"? Is that really too much to ask? Or understand? Geesh!

I highly doubt that it would've been smooth sailing for her to get in touch with Beyonce the day before her album is released. Getting in touch with Beyonce period Im sure is not the easiest thing to do. It's really not the same. The "damage" cant be done and then we say Kelis could've done this instead. That aint right. I do think Kelis went in way too hard here, but hey, I never had my art and music taken from me and then have that be used to make more money off my talent and not given a lil courtesy call, so I cant tell her how to react to what in her eyes may seem to be like another way she's being disrespected and overlooked.
being that Bey legally got the song cleared, it doesn't make a difference if she got to her before the album released or not. If she wants to know why Bey did it how she did, or whatever she wants to know. It's gonna be even harder now probably that she's out here slandering the girl's name
Hell she probably could've worked out a deal. Just because a song or album is out doesn't mean credits can't be added

And Kelis prob doesn't care about any of that either. Why do ppl think Kelis is only ranting because she wants credit or she wants public recognition or money? The girl literally just said 'Hey, a phone call would be nice'. That's all she wanted.  :kii:

If i sold the rights to the shit then.... its fucking GONE.

:shannonsmissing:  by contract and law. I dont own it anymore. I can bitch n moan all day. It wont change that I sold everything.
Also this doesnt equate fully. People replicate and take from other painters all the time without giving credit and not needing to because... you know. Inspiration and no one can truly say theyre the first to do anything unless its copyrighted...

Which goes back to if you sold said rights.. theyre gone

that would only work if Kelis "painted" this song alone. You're saying she made the beat? Wrote all the lyrics? Neptunes had no input?

there's really no question about whether legally/technically fas "owed" anything to kelis before releasing this. the answer is flat out no if kelis has no rights to the song.

so we can get that out the way. almost pointless in discussing that.

but i think the reason this entire mess is actually picking up steam is because fas does push that whole "women empowerment! we allz we gotz!" tea.

kelis's question clearly is "sis, you are all about this and that and you couldn't even reach out to say hey girl, love ur song and imma use it for my alber! props to u luv.  :) "

and if pharrell is for a fact doing this to mess with kelis that makes it even worse - using fas as some sort of vessel to launch a tea against another woman.

Significant Discovery: First known Black American family of Kalmyk descent

Takeaways: Be prepared to pivot, even when you think you're on the right track. Be OK with being wrong so you can get things right.

Kalmyks are tribal Mongolic people who settled in Russia. It's estimated that only 300,000 Kalmyk descendants exist worldwide - with only 3,000 in America.
