If a black woman did "Hello" it would flop.....I know the anticipation was a huge factor for Adele, but even if it was sung by Tori Kelly it had a chance of being a hit because the program directors would take a chance because of her skin color.
The music industry has definitely regressed. We all get on Tinashe, but she gets it, she wants to be on top 40 radio but her material just isn't strong enough. She did say in an interview producers etc try not to give her their best material. She doesn't have a lot of star quality in my opinion but she has more than Ariana and Tori....
New black female artists that have potential to blow up, just go straight to top 40 and cross over to urban. It's a losing game in todays time if you start out at urban as a black female. You really shoot yourself in the foot. Justine Skye will never pop, urban radio doesn't even play females like that, and if they do you're only getting one single out of them if your name isn't Beyonce & Rihanna.
It's not fair that white artists can come out the game going straight to z100 but we get stuck with hot 97, and it takes 3months for the song to hit top 15....smh
This long ass essay I just wrote....Anyway I agree with kmichelle.
