tik tok is a kii

170 million users!
Millions of Small business owners can now resume operations! Yay!!!

They're underlining their cultural and economic impact as I said they were trying to do

Them actually quantifying it is a HARD underline. The stir fried version of "I'm not the one"

It's very hypocritical for a Chinese company to own such a large social media platform considering how must are ban in their country including TikTok. I'm glad its closed.

TikTok is trying to pull a power move, but the reality is that TikTok cannot exist without the USA. Now, Trump is going to bail them out to see like a hero to content creators, but honestly TikTok did not have as much power as they thought they did.

This is quite literally not true.
Like... at all.

TikTok has over 1.6 BILLION active monthly users.

Even without the 170 million users from America, it would still be a massive social media app.

The content might not be as great, but the app would still be heavily used all over the world.

i honestly don't think tik tok was under the delusion that they had more power than the supreme courts

or that people who sit in those positions to get rid of them (from entirely different generations) would be inclined to save them when a concern of national security is raised - just cuz their app is so cool n fun

If anything I think that the way this playing out is actually proving that tik tok may actually have a significant amount of "power" in the states  . Ultimately, Biden eventually shied away from enforcing the ban and now trump is promising to help them

Tik tok then took it a step further and drove the point of their economic/cultural significance by purposely pulling the plug . Not long enough for the gorls to find alternatives and come to terms with it ... just long enough to cause a little chaos.

Trump made a genuine, meaningful connection with tik tok during his campaign and discovered himself how useful their platform is.

He's actually doing the right thing by stepping back on his previous stance . Still a kii cuz he's ALWAYS proven to be inconsistent and/or incorrect. But this is one instance where his inconsistency will benefit many.

Trump being anti-China in the past def wasn't part of some long term master plan to be seen as tik tok's hero in 2025.

Dnnfnfnfnfnfnff

He was literally anti-Chinese , labeling covid as the "Chinese flu" and causing a lot of chink hatred and attacks across America.

Of course tik tok was included in his rampage.

I think he was pissed a disease that reportedly started in China was brought here and was giving him hell. Covid was a huge reason he eventually lost the election to Biden IMO

That means nothing to its value. The USA and its 330 million residents have the GDP of India and China COMBINED.

Other than the Europeans, TikTok is probably almost exclusively supported by USA. The whole concept of gifting, tiktok shop and content creation is overwhelming funded by Americans. I will correct myself because, you're right  it could exist without Americans however. The goal of any for profit company is to make money. And you would have to be a fool to think that TikTok's parent company would be willing to lose BILLIONS of dollars instead of selling to an American company.

They would have been forced to sell.

Gilgamesh.

Seeing this play out as someone that barely uses TikTok has been...interesting.

Ulysses

Trump will do anything to be loved. He is def eyeing TikTok as a way to be more popular. He wanted this shit banned previously too.

And this new message giving him credit for bringing it back  :kii:

did you think they were gonna do a staggered shutdown according to each timezone? vccccc

u clearly skipped over the article I posted where even the White House said tik tok is pulling an unnecessary "stunt"

I thought it was a bit stunt-ish considering it was shut down early (and started thinking why did they still shut it down at all. I was confused because Biden got a green light to enforce the ban from SCOTUS but opted not to) but I did a lil research to confirm my theory.

https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/5093393-white-house-tiktok-ban-joe-biden-support/amp/

Turns out they gave a "warning" that they'd "go dark" unless they received outright support from Biden, instead of his passive "I'll just leave it to trump" mess.

so tik tok still shutting down is definitely an effort to apply pressure, send a message and prove a point.

Tik tok wants the gorls to SEE what their absence could do . It's typical obnoxiously annoying chink behavior but also smart - as proving negative and widespread impact (including cultural and even economic consequences) could discourage the US government from fuckin with them in the future.

Here's an excerpt from the article in case you're too lazy to click the link.

QuoteThe White House on Saturday called TikTok's statement warning that it will "go dark" on Sunday unless President Biden steps in a "stunt," arguing the app doesn't have to take action before President-elect Trump is sworn in.

"We have seen the most recent statement from TikTok. It is a stunt, and we see no reason for TikTok or other companies to take actions in the next few days before the Trump Administration takes office on Monday," outgoing press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre wrote in a statement Saturday.

Just pack up that "time zones!" statement u tried to make

Regardless of time zone, a shut down on the 19th was not a requirement. The ban was approved, but not yet enforced.

This is a fact, not a "reach".

Quote from: oph. on January 19, 2025, 11:56:02 AMand to be clear, i said them shutting it down "early" as a stunt is a reach.

if were moving the goalpost and arguing that them shutting it down AT ALL is a stunt, i can see that

Trump could have pushed for them thanking him so blatantly to be a condition of him helping out

He's super narcissistic so I can def see that.

Especially considering Tik Tok is ultimately still kinda at his mercy now that SCOTUS gave the ban a green light .

And I mean "u rub my back I rub urs" is pretty much the way of the world
