I just saw this mya shit online and came in here cause I figured that's why this shit bumped up.  Now I saw what she said and I love Kelly but which Kelly album outsold myas when they were both out and viable artists?

They're DRAGGING her on social media. She should've said his name instead of Mya's. It looks bad and maybe hateful that Mya's name was mentioned but not the exec's. Kelly just can't catch a break.

Yea...naming Mya instead of the black exec kinda defeats the whole purpose of this anecdote. The way she worded this made it seem as if she held some sort of one sided, internalized grudge against Mya for what some other bitch said 

Also Mya's first two albums are bigger than Kelly's first two. Kelly sold more first week months apart... yay I guess. Mya ended up selling more overall

I'm thinking the exec has to be Steve Stoute during their sophomore era but she keeps referring to it as their debut era. Steve seems like the type. He gives off asshole energy. I don't think that's Haqq Islam's character.

if she's upset with this mixed race, slimmer, more ambiguous, lighter skinned "long haired" woman or those like her, I get it.

I think Mya would understand too with all preexisting context considered. She seems emotionally mature and reasonable.

I highly doubt she'd respond with a "BITCH WHY U HATIN ON ME" tea. as some of the people discussing this story probably would, and actually are doing on her behalf in many cases.

But She does understandably appear to have an issue with what Mya embodies.

The idea of People gathering around to "oooh!" and "ahhh!" over things about someones appearance that are assumably tied to non-Blackness and putting them on a pedestal for it, is foreign to a woman like Kelly.

It's perceived privilege that is bothering my queen. And I understand that.

Granted, she doesn't know Mya's full story. A lot of visibly mixed people suffer from their own challenges. Identity issues, confusion... people who will pull and push them in and out of Blackness ...

And Mya can't help what her family background is. She's just a girl who was tryna live her dream like Kelly. But the real villain here is the men who made Kelly feel "less than ".

It's totally OK to celebrate and embrace our differences but not OK to say one difference is "better" than the other.

And this goes back to why it's NOT ok to make fun of Blackness and let Black women express their mess without silencing them.

Cuz Guess what was airing on TV while Kelly was being told this?

The show that Ari Lennox said made her uncomfortable cuz Martin kept making fun of Pam's natural appearance.

When you see someone calling a Black person darkie or monkey or nappy head, shut the shit down. If you don't , don't complain or be confused when we see products of things we allow.

i dont think there's an actual, direct issue with Mya. Kelly's issues IMO are much deeper than "I don't like Mya."

maybe it's more entertaining to frame it this way on the blogs, but those who take time to think and are actually invested in these conversations about anti-Blackness and how it affects people in the community will see this as an opportunity for a bigger conversation.

To be fair, later in Kelly's video she said that her and Mya got to know each other because they were doing a lot of promotion in the same places at the same time because their albums came out at the same time.
I just think it was tasteless to even mention her or even say she outsold her by 40k
Meanwhile she didn't mention the man in question so he gets to still be anonymous and Mya catches a stray cuz her album didn't do that well in the first week.
She could've just said "my album ended up being number
1 on the chart" or something more vague and general to show that she proved the man wrong but still keeping the other innocent bystander from being in it.

kelly told a story involving record sales from 20 years ago.
