Quote from: Tammy RiveraPlease yall don't be blinded and misguided SMDH! 1. The U.S. rarely 'intervenes' unless there's strategic or financial benefit this is a well-documented pattern in U.S. foreign policy: Oil Mineral access (lithium, cobalt, gold, rare earth metals), Military positioning, Political influence. When countries become more economically independent, especially African nations cutting off old colonial contracts and reclaiming resources, it threatens Western economic interests. That's why suddenly framing involvement as 'protecting Christians' or 'humanitarian help' can sound... convenient. WAKE TF UP‼️‼️‼️‼️

Obviously the US and other countries only steps into situations when there's personal gain. Does that mean the issues don't exist? :uhh:

also, the majority of nigerians being persecuted are muslim, not christian. and there has been no evidence to support that what's happening is religion-based. this is why it's important to research and get an actual understanding of what's happening before speaking out.

Which is why Nicki said ALL should be able to practice religious freedoms.

i don't think whether it exists or not has ever been debated. i think the point is looking at what the ill intentions of this administration are in what they're doing and how that will negatively impact, not only nigeria, but other parts of the country as well.

and nicki has been co-opted in an attempt to further legitimize this ploy and she doesn't seem to realize it.

Trump secured funding for HBCUs. Does that mean he's a great president? No. Does that mean he did this for the betterment of black youth? Not necessarily. Does that mean it was a selfless act? No.

Now, would it be unacceptable to thank him for finally doing something that's not completely evil?

this is why it's important to research and gather sources, preferably multiple, to get an understanding of the facts.

Over 50,000 Christians have been murdered by Islamists in Nigeria since 2009. That's literally a fact.

well i do think trump funding HBCU's is quite a different situation than what we're discussing as it relates to nigeria.

but to that point, i would say it's imperative that we critically think and not be swayed by performative acts that appear to be in our favor while ignoring that pattern of actions that have been detrimental to us.

here's a great article to read that unpacks his "funding" of HBCUs and why it was purely performative: https://bwhi.org/2025/05/16/why-this-executive-order-isnt-the-win-it-claims-to-be-for-hbcus/

we have to research these things to ensure we have the facts and reality.
