one could argue that "hey thats life why does that need to be explained"

but this was a show selling a "life changing opportunity" to young ladies who weren't WISE enough yet to really understand that just because you make it on TV and even win something "big" on TV...there's no guarantee of sustained success and opportunity.

even viewers who didn't have the experience firsthand were left confused when winners didn't "win" in life after ANTM. because we were kinda sold the same idea as viewers. that's what made us tune in and root for our favs.

hell, the show title in itself is seemingly a promise of success. "America's Next Top Model"

so you can only imagine what it's like to actually live through that.

I call bullshit.  That's like assuming everyone that won American Idol was promised a huge career as a recording artist.

to say an 18 year old was unreasonable to believe they'd become a "Top Model" after actually winning when the show was literally called "Americas Next Top Model" is unreasonable in itself

Remember these are younger people  for the most part. Not fully grown adults who shoulda "known better"

It's not much different from people who thought they would be rich after signing huge recording contracts in the 90s only to find out it doesn't always work that way even if you've sold millions.

The average person over 20 years ago wasn't savvy enough to know "fame" doesn't always equate to fortune. Especially super impressionable younger people who were dreaming of leaving tough backgrounds and situations behind.

This is beyond empathy, I'd say it's common sense.

And it's no coincidence that the most infamous moment on ANTM involves Tiffany, a young girl who had one of the toughest life stories.

Grandma getting lights cut off to get her there, coming from the hood looking for better.

The ideal contestant for ANTM had a rougher background. A "story" for them to work with. And guess what, many people with those stories often are desperate to leave situations. They're more susceptible to fantasizing about new realities and how being the "Next Top Model" can bring that to them.

That desperation will drive them to compete harder and losing will hit them harder when and if they're forced to return home to what they were hoping they'd never have to see again.

If you think show producers didn't know this and didn't low key prey on it, you're just as naive as the gorls who participated at 18.

even back then watching that scene of those hairstylists giggling and making "jokes" as they played in ebony's hair didn't sit right with me. Even if I wasn't able to articulate what it was at the time I knew I was uncomfortable watching it.

There's only so many excuses we can make with this "2026 lens!" stuff

Especially when Ebony was clocking tea in real time

But I def understand how some of the shoot concepts may have seemed harmless and creative at the time.

it was the opposite for me

i 100% came in thinking i'd be rooting for Tyra cuz i live for her

but seeing Dani break down the way she did

Tyra admitting to Dani that she knew she was suffering and did nothing about to help her...well after Dani was well past her prime modeling years.....was super hurtful to her

and it's almost like , what was the point of her telling her that information AFTER the damage was already done and was irreversible at that age? it clearly hurt Dani even more to know that Tyra knew what was going on and didn't help her when she needed it most

even in that moment of  Tyra "coming clean" or "taking accountability" to Dani there's still an underlying sense of selfishness. like, in order to make yourself feel better so you could sleep at night you had to make Dani feel worse by letting her know how much you didn't give af.

and the way she treated Mr. Jay once he let her know he'd be leaving is giving classic narcissistic "mask falls off" teas

it was "hehe!" "ki ki!" and "hey bestie!" and slumber parties with ice cream when things were going Tyra's way, but the moment Jay decided it was time to move on from being her right hand man on ANTM, she morphed into a complete bitch towards him

but i'd say one thing Mr. Jay probably should have done instead of sending an email is maybe pick up the phone to call Tyra with the news of his departure.

he said he was giving her the courtesy of telling her first because they had a special connection as friends. i dunno if they normally communicated through emails but few friends do . friends communicate through texts and phone calls. especially when they have big, life changing news to tell each other.

the email sounded very formal and something you'd send an employer "thanking them for the opportunity", etc.

yes it woulda been a very uncomfortable and awkward conversation and it's much easier to just type something up and hit "send"....but sometimes the way you choose to end things can really have an effect on how it's received and the reaction you get.

Not saying that Tyra isn't a bitch but def feels like another situation where they're deflecting from things they've done themselves.

i do feel like mr. Jay may have been leaving stuff out

Cuz if you're kii kii gorlfriends why are you sending such a formal email to let her know of your departure instead of picking up the phone

At the very least, I think there may have been lingering tension beforehand

And that the transition from Tyra being his bestie to "don't look at me" wasn't as immediate as he's presenting it

But I don't think he did anything bad to Tyra. Jay seems to know how to play his position and keep it cute. I 100% believe he played that role of her "loyal gay bestie" .

And to his credit he did admit that he felt himself drifting away from the show and what they were doing with it. That could speak to the tension that I believe was in the air before that email was sent.
