who would hire a woman named Watermelondrea? Another case of dumb NIGGERS tryna fight a battle that doesn't exist. I could see if she said something along the lines of, "Shaquita wouldn't make it past the front door of my office." But she was joking with the Watermelondrea mess

She exaggerated with the name Watermelon' but in reality we know she was taking a stab at the Shaquitas, and Monequas, etc. of the world. She pretty much played into the common joke about "ghetto names". Prejudice against ethnic sounding names is real in the marketplace.

There's actually a guy at my job who does not let anyone call him by his first name (LaDerrick). He makes it a point that that you address by his last name. We can't act like her joke didn't hit at a real issue, and even promote the concept. The problem is really the platform she's on. It's cute as a kii kii joke on the phone with you and a friend, but when you're in front of millions your responsibilities totally change. You're in a position to influence large numbers of people.

I feel bad for my coworker. He shouldn't have to feel ashamed of his real name. But in the office he wants to be taken seriously so he uses his last name which is more "mild".

There are names out there that may seem just as outrageous as Watermelondrea to some people. Have you guys not seen the news clips of black people describing what they've seen in their neighborhoods? There was someone named Helicopterlequa or some mess. The names really exist.

And it's all subjective as well. To us, Shanequa is a bit of a normality since most of us are black. Nothing new. To a white person, their standards of what is "tame" may be totally different. She took it to another level with Watermelondrea, but who's to say that Billy from Corporate wouldn't be looking at "Raven Symone"s resume like, no ma'am, she's definitely black and I WON"T be calling her for an interview.

That's what made it even more of a kii to me. She has an ethnic name herself.
