There's actually a guy at my job who does not let anyone call him by his first name (LaDerrick). He makes it a point that that you address by his last name. We can't act like her joke didn't hit at a real issue, and even promote the concept. The problem is really the platform she's on. It's cute as a kii kii joke on the phone with you and a friend, but when you're in front of millions your responsibilities totally change. You're in a position to influence large numbers of people.
I feel bad for my coworker. He shouldn't have to feel ashamed of his real name. But in the office he wants to be taken seriously so he uses his last name which is more "mild".
