There's actually a guy at my job who does not let anyone call him by his first name (LaDerrick). He makes it a point that that you address by his last name. We can't act like her joke didn't hit at a real issue, and even promote the concept. The problem is really the platform she's on. It's cute as a kii kii joke on the phone with you and a friend, but when you're in front of millions your responsibilities totally change.
!!!! Made up name! just kidding!

nah we all know what she meant.
How? :plzstop: I've watched that clip plenty times and to me, it seemed she was talking about the name Watermelondrea specifically. Luckily, no one would dare name their child that :plzstop: :uhh:

Raven >>>> black twitter
bnnnnn I mean ...  it was a bad joke and she was lashed accordingly. I don't think she meant any harm but I DO think she's ignorant. She's made that clear on more than one occasion

She was using "watermelondria" as an example :dead: an example of what? "Ghetto", weird sounding names. Period. It was dumb
She didn't bring up the name tho. IDK, I just feel like the backlash was pathetic. Black twitter ain't about shit unless it's about attacking somebody and that's why they'll never prosper.

BLM & Raven >>> :ohwow:
She supported the concept that people with "ghetto" names are underserving of a chance. And that basing decisions solely on names is OK. There is clearly a problem with that. She didn't say Watermelondrea had a criminal record, or questionable time gaps in her resume. She said her name wasn't good enough for her company.

It's just not cool to be on that type of platform in front of millions, and tell people that it's OK to do that. There could have been a hiring manager who practices name prejudice watching that day, and was just told "Hey even a Black person said it's cool, I know I'm not doing something wrong here."

I mean, Watermelondrea would make anyone raise an eyebrow. That's why it's the name of that one fagg's whole YouTube channel. It's like, Rae, how dare you make fun of a name that's already a joke! Anger!
:uhh:

I just think these niggers need to learn to pick their battles better

Herb.

It's less about the specific name and more about the concept itself, lil sis.

I understand that tho. In this case, it seemed she was speaking about the specific name.

Herb.

She kept it real I suppose but as a Black person named Raven Symone, I mean......no shade.

Name prejudice is real.

Right, but there will be people who kii
and people who drag and say WAIT, its not cool to promote name prejudice

I'm just saying, her draggings were understandable. I can see why people were upset.
Maybe their sister is named Airwrecka, or Poison Ivy, etc.
