Aren't Kendrick and J. Cole supposed to be speaking against homophobia?

It's so funny cuz on Saint Patricks day, my white coworker buddy revealed to me that he's part Irish (he's white), explaining why he proudly sported his green shirt.
I told him that my father's side of the family actually has some Irish roots, but how it came into my family isn't exactly something for me to be smiling with a green shirt, happy and giddy about. I was joking around, laughing. (even though it is true)

He caught what I meant and IMMEDIATELY that white guilt kicked in.
:plzstop: :plzstop: :plzstop: :plzstop: he chuckled just a bit
then 2 minutes later I was hearing about how MANY races of people were slaves, how it still exists, how disgusting it is....

I almost felt bad for him. I just wanted to say ..... Its OK Evan....its OK! i don't blame you personally. it was a lil joke.  :plzstop: :plzstop: :plzstop: i felt bad for even bringing it up.  :dead:

Some mess just needs to be kept between myself and my black colleagues.  :dead: :dead:

i wore all BLACK on saint patric' day btw. :wellheythere:
!!!

That's why I don't discuss racial issues often with white people at work

I've had a similar experience

AIDS!

!!! At what Afro said
Unless their in tune, that white guilt pops up and out pours the lines that make them feel better :dead:
It's hilarious
Sometimes I bring shit up at work because it's almost automatic how the shit spews

I kinda have the same policy. But he and I actually talk outside of walk, he's really cool. I thought we could have that lil joke for a minute, I mean I've discussed slavery with him before.  :plzstop: :plzstop: And he always knows his boundaries. But maybe it just hit a little more close to him because there's a small chance his relatives could've been my father's familys masters.  :plzstop: :plzstop:

Btw I feel like Macklemore are opportunist
Their whole pro gay thing came out when the whole thing about gay marriage was at its peak :dead:
i feel that way too

i dont use. same thing they did when they came at Iggy for "appropriating the culture" or whatever term it is.

Like sit down 🙄
They are frauds

Death. This is why nobody speaks up about shit.

Hidden agenda! Thought it out!

Damn if you do, damn if you don't.

Macklemore suck but I can give credit where it's due. He took a risk by speaking on an unpopular ass subject in hip hop when his peers won't. That song could've been bad for his career but he did it anyway. Stop bitching.  :uhh:

I don't think its something that's personal to them
Maybe in future they'll touch on issue
!!!

i dont want them to do it just to get a pat on the back. if it isn't something they truly feel or understand just yet, then thats fine. As long they dont start gay bashing (in ANY way) then its whatever for now
!
I think for them the black issue comes first, because that's what they've experienced
No one has ever lauded them the most socially conscious or inclusive, but they do touch on issues that effect the community that they come from
and embrace them
!!!

there may be inconsistencies every now n then in their music, but neither of them have claimed to be Ghandi

They do not claim to be Gandhi, but sometimes are celebrated as such. Especially Kendrick... And both do kinda carry themselves on some deep, elevated yadi yadi...

But even between Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, Talin Kweli, all the "deep" edgy rappers, why is it so hard for them to talk about this. They live in the music industry, gayness is all around and a part of their life for sure.

It is almost like they are straddling the fence.

I never looked at JCole this way but Kendrick is for sure looked upon as a more conscious rapper.

I don't need him to speak on the topic if it's not authentic to him. As long as he doesn't come out and say homophobic shit.

It did make me respect Mackelmore though. He didn't have to do that song. Wish it was someone else though. He's corny to me.

FUCK Bey

People praise these two like the next coming of Gandhi.

Street preacher! Real issues! Thought-provoking!
hhh now your exaggerating just a TAD
and thats probably because they might be the only two out of this current generation of rappers that DO speak on current issues
Doesn't mean their both hip hop Malcolm x's

I agree they are not, but people act like they are. And personally I would love for them to just make a clear statement or think about it, as their voice is so powerful. I don't like that a white man was the first in hip hop to do it... Why can't our black rappers make it an issue.

am mean, they probably don't fuck with gays at all. a lot of these socially conscious, "woke" niggers can't stand gays because they we're some kind of threat to the image of the "strong black male".

wouldn't be that shocking to find out they don't care for the gorls.
well yea, thats a possibility too. Im a fan of both and dont wanna believe that, obviously, but its
very possible

AIDS!

And dead at a 'risk'
A 'risk' is when Frank Ocean came out with having relations with a man
Macklmore put that shit out at the HEIGHT of the whole gay marriage debate, add to the fact that their white, a pop novelty act it was a sure fire way to drum up some faux support, didn't they perform that shot at the Grammys too? :plzstop:
The white gays support anything with a rainbow flag, and the whites support anything to feed their 'oh we're good people!' complex

And one could easily argue that Macklemore is an opportunist. As many white people are. No shade. They profit off of others' struggles, gladly raking in dollars from things that don't affect them or their immediate community directly. But I'm sure he'll state that he donated a portion of the proceeds to some random gay organization.

Are you fucking serious? I don't even like Crackermore and I even give props to his corny self.

You are doing way too damn much.  :uhh:

Um, you do know the Republican Party which is like 90% white hates gay people.

White people do not all support anything pro gay.

And even if the song came out at the height of the gay movement, the song was recorded before it. People don't record a song and release it to radio a week later.

It was a risk for him to do the song and he did it. It was good for the gay community. You are looking way too much into it.

You seem angry at Mackelmore. Hopefully your therapist can help you with that.
