Aren't Kendrick and J. Cole supposed to be speaking against homophobia?

People praise these two like the next coming of Gandhi.

Street preacher! Real issues! Thought-provoking!
hhh now your exaggerating just a TAD
and thats probably because they might be the only two out of this current generation of rappers that DO speak on current issues
Doesn't mean their both hip hop Malcolm x's

I don't think its something that's personal to them
Maybe in future they'll touch on issue
!!!

i dont want them to do it just to get a pat on the back. if it isn't something they truly feel or understand just yet, then thats fine. As long they dont start gay bashing (in ANY way) then its whatever for now
!
I think for them the black issue comes first, because that's what they've experienced
No one has ever lauded them the most socially conscious or inclusive, but they do touch on issues that effect the community that they come from
and embrace them
!!!

there may be inconsistencies every now n then in their music, but neither of them have claimed to be Ghandi

They do not claim to be Gandhi, but sometimes are celebrated as such. Especially Kendrick... And both do kinda carry themselves on some deep, elevated yadi yadi...

But even between Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, Talin Kweli, all the "deep" edgy rappers, why is it so hard for them to talk about this. They live in the music industry, gayness is all around and a part of their life for sure.

It is almost like they are straddling the fence.

Btw I feel like Macklemore are opportunist
Their whole pro gay thing came out when the whole thing about gay marriage was at its peak :dead:
i feel that way too

i dont use. same thing they did when they came at Iggy for "appropriating the culture" or whatever term it is.

I agree they are not, but people act like they are. And personally I would love for them to just make a clear statement or think about it, as their voice is so powerful. I don't like that a white man was the first in hip hop to do it... Why can't our black rappers make it an issue.

Macklemore did ride the fuck outta that wave. But I just want a black rapper to do it, that is respected.

I do see the point, of them maybe not being qualified due to their own personal story, but at the end of the day, it is also an issue within the community and in the industry you will come across gay people, so why not rap about it.

true, they're all definitely heralded as the deep socially conscious rappers and such, but they can't help that :dead: that isn't a title they gave themselves. And they've all put great messages in their music so its kinda warranted to an extent

I dont think most of them are straddling any sort of fence, cuz i never heard of them speaking out on gay anything. Good or bad, I've never seen them address or acknowledge it at all.

Freemala Harris

It would be nice

Although I remember J.Cole being called out after:

QuoteMy verbal AK slay faggots and I don't mean no disrespect
Whenever I say faggot, okay faggot? huh, don't be so sensitive
If you want to get fucked in the ass
That's between you and whoever else's dick it is, pause
Maybe that line was too far
Just a little joke to show how homophobic you are
And who can blame ya? Boy Meets World

https://youtu.be/MiQlwY_CrQ0?t=1m8s

This one is debatable lol

I'd say the best thing in recent that was inclusive (in terms of black queer people) was Formation. It was nice to hear Beyonce give a one up to Freedia & Messy Mya (RIP).

Vonc2002

This is my pass to say WHATEVER tf I wanna say about the mess she releases so I don't wanna hear SHIT! Baby mama is a mess of a song btw

AIDS!

Kendrick said something a while ago about gay marriage in support of Obama
I feel like they stay neutral because they don't want to alienate their fanbase, which IS homophobic :dead:
Macklemore is preaching to the wider mainstream audience, who's gonna boycott their music? Lol

Macklmore have that luxury, black rappers don't.

I know J. Cole does use "faggot" in his raps though. How is that okay.
