Jay deserves the right to know his ancestry, without being heckled, just like the rest of us.  :omgwatshappening:

Can't wait to see your results Jay.  :nogrammynoneck:

This is awesome Afro. When I do mine I might need your help researching, if you don't mind.

I've always been curious to try this, but you have definitely sold me on the idea.

Honestly, I was beginning to lose just a BIT of faith in the DNA tests.

But the more I read, the more I am amazed.
I am a descendant of the Dumas family, and when I searched the name I discovered many of them were directly from Saint Domingue (which is now the Dominican Republic.)

These are the grandparent results I got from GEDMatch.
It guesses the roots of all 4 of your grandparents.
Quoteafrican-american + brong + dominican + fang

My grandmother's roots are basically in what is now the Dominican Republic.

However, Melungeons have their own identity in the states, and do not call themselves "Dominican" but their heritage is pretty much the same. That unique mix of ethnicities (African + Spanish/Portuguese + French + Native ) is what the test picked up and labeled it "Dominican".

I'm a firm believer and stan for DNA testing again.  :plzstop: :plzstop: :stressed: We are so LUCKY to have this stuff available.

I am just in shambles. The more I read and look at my results.....
I already knew the North Africa and Southern Europe resuts (Spain+Portugal) came from this heritage.

But there's even more of their beginnings HUNDREDS of years ago is still lurking around in my bloodstream!  :plzstop: :plzstop: :plzstop:

QuoteThe Melungeons are a people of apparent Mediterranean descent who may have settled in the Appalachian wilderness as early or possibly earlier than 1567. The Mediterrean includes areas of North Africa, southern Europe and Central Asia.

This is fucking crazy :uhh: I'm sorry but DNA is EVERYTHING.  :plzstop: :plzstop:

I have every piece of Melungeon identity inside of me :stressed: from North/West Africa, to Southern Europe, to American Indian, to Central Asia. My mother passed every bit of it on. :justabit:
