No need to fume. I already knew back then Mya sounded like shit on most of her early performances. She used to sound like she sucked on helium before each performance. LOL

Especially during Afrodisiac.
You can tell that she recorded one part of the verse, stopped, recording the next part, layered. Then stopped, recorded the next piece.

That's a reason why people assumed she avoided certain teas from different eras.
They were in the same vein of Moving Mountains in terms of tight arrangements.

I hated this and i don't think it's that hard to sing,  i just don't think usher is a great singer.  He's had nice moments here and there but he's no luther or (insert great male singer here).

It's the arrangement and key of the song.

The arrangement is very tight which allows the singer very little time to breathe if they were to sing it live, it also starts off at the higher end of Usher's range. Usually songs build up.

Think: Kelly's As We Lay vs Tired.

Both slay vocally but Tired is just a constant vocal lashing from start finish, while As We Lays gives her time to build up to her potential.

Anyone who's at all familiar with singing can understand. I would never write a song where I come out the gate BELTING. Or attempt to cover a song that required it either. You have no room to relax and nowhere to go.

Mariah is the queen of the "build up". Start mellow THEN belt.

And with these Kelly examples, I am not in no way saying Usher is her lane vocally. Just giving an example.
