I think a lot of it depends on the parent's intent. I always thought my father was justified in the way he chose to discipline my brothers, but looking back on it...he was taking a lot of his own stress out on them.

Well I guess it's all subjective tbh
And probably more than likely depends on the state of the parent and or child.

But I'm always told how people can tell I was "raised right" and I can testify and appreciate the appropriateness of my spankings. It definitely wasn't abuse In my eyes. Even as a child I knew I was wrong and deserved to be disciplined at times.

But if the kid keeps on and you have to do it again and again and AGAIN... then.. obviously...

KING BENTLEY.

What would you suggest instead?

"Oh Timmy don't set your sisters hair on fire, go sit down for 3 minutes with no snacks"

You raise serial killers or manipulative narcissistic fcks that way :dead:

Children aren't developed, all this new age mess like letting them control their punishments and talking it out is a joke to them to an extent.

The purpose of a solid spanking is to deeply instill the lesson that poor choices create harmful consequences.

That doesn't necessarily mean that was a result of you getting knocked around like Jans on Good Times.

I'm just saying I have genuine and deep respect for elders and authority figure if they maintain my respect. I believe it's due to my subconscious knowing certain actions have certain consequences. My spankings taught me that and as A child I knew that.

There are plenty of other ways to go about disciplining/reinforcing fear (this is the real goal isn't it?) in your child. If you don't know how to do anything other than pull owt a belt...maybe raising a child isn't for you.

Exactly

Young

Definitely agree there are other forms of discipline .

Spanking IMO wouldn't be my only form and it would be a last result depending on the issue.
