Meryl overacts at times as well, IMO. but she's had a lot of chances to show off her different chops. they don't get the same opportunities

Yea, I've never watched a meryl streep movie and was like ugh extra or doing too much. I have seen movies that i havent enjoyed as much but that's preference. When she gets it right?

Speaking of... Lemme watch Doubt. and Honestly she's the closest to a perfect actress there has ever been and makes 9/10 great decisions when picking films.

Viola, Meryl, Taraji, Monique are all great and talented actresses. Some have been given the opportunity to shine more than others.

As for Viola, I think it's very hard for women with distinctive, deep voices to come across genuine in subservient type of roles. I think it's sometimes hard for the voice to show the range of inflections that a lighter voice shows. I sometimes find that issue with women like Viola, Angela Bassett,...even Brandy. It's not that they are bad actresses, it's just that their speaking voices don't inflect and adjust as easily as lighter/softer voices.

And Viola may not have that Oscar, but she has 2 Tony awards.

!!! viola is very good at being vulnerable and making you feel bad for her (the help/ some moments in htgawm)....she's also good at the bitch or dominant type roles (htgawm)...and she's good at being crazy (htgawm)...or being dykish/ manly (htgawm)

thats kinda all she needs for most roles

and as rig said: we have not seen her play a quirky role like a witch in a fantasy movie,etc... honestly , no black woman has had the chance to do that type of role yet
