Lalah Hathaway

It's true Bent.

A lot of the "general" urban music lovers think Brandy's debut was when she was at her BEST.
The music was simple, more-urban, and she was indeed sanging.
But others who "get it", know she has done amazing things thereafter.

wow I went to the post.. and Brandy was the overall consensus that had to go, and I noticed that overall it was women that voted her out.

Why do y'all think that is ?

Most people base 'singing' on volume and high notes, belting etc.

So why aren't Aaliyah and Rihanna the ones getting the boot? :everythingok:
See Capricorn's reason as well.
Outside of B's debut and Put It Down, I rarely hear/see females getting into her discography
unless they're musically inclined
I saw his reason. I was more curious in yours. Just didn't make sense to me with Liy and Rih perched up there. It's not important, just a bit curious. Happy Facebooking guys!

these memes are stupid. they all have their musical highs and operate in their own respective lane, I don't see how or why anyone's discography cancels anyone else's out.

Yea... Brandy's general public slay (especially in the urban community) slowed-down in 2002.

But her RESPECT in the industry grew from 2002. Which I'm grateful for. I'd rather have respect than general public approval.

In order for Brandy to get back that general public slay, she'd have to have another major album, preferably rooted in an URBAN/R&B Brandy-style-debut slay.

Brandy really isn't just R&B though... She should move in the Janelle Mon?e direction or go the Lalah Hathaway route... This back to the roots mess, her voice is too intricate for a Monica/Mary type record. She blended R&B with gospel, pop and that special artistic edge between Full Moon and Afrodisiac. I need this Brandy...

Yea, of course. I want Bran to do what she feels is best.

But it will cost her. You alienate a fanbase who is more urban-driven, a la the Brandy debut-kind-of-slay. I think her doing an Urban-R&B album would be great though. People haven't heard Brandy like that in a LONG time.

Brandy can't sell it though... "What You Need" seemed contrived from her.

THIS is so true.

As soon as PUT IT DOWN was released, that's when my urban-music-lover female friends started telling ME about Brandy. And they live for the I WANNA BE DOWNs and BROKENHEARTEDs.

That's a SONG, though. Which is interchangeable.
I'm talking about R&B in general.

I see some people want to take this thread in an entirely different direction. Let's not critique Bran and her sonic legacy  :uhh:

Brandy and Monica could have stopped making Music after 2004 and they would still be up there. And basically they did not have any Major hits after (sans "Everything to Me")

Right Here was Top 40 on the Hot 100

Why do y'all think that is ?

she doesn't have a strong female fanbase
Her music doesn't really cater to the vaginas
