I definitely do, especially living here in Southern California.

I was just having a conversation about this with a friend of mine. White people don't get how much their perceptions affect people of color. To the point that some of us feel the need to wear this "mask" when we interact with them so they don't feel threatened or uneasy.

I've seen this first hand. I've been told that I speak very "proper". So sometimes when dealing with White people I see this relief or ease come over them the minute I open my mouth. It's like, "Ok, he's one of the cool ones."

These fuckin DEVILS have taken so much from us. Even the ability to just be ourselves. It's like we have to constantly conform or "play their game" to get ahead or appease them, and if you don't you're labeled a certain way. It's sad.

It's mostly linguistic and behavioral markers of class than race for me. I come from a working class immigrant family, my nature is pretty hood and inner city but I'm moving into liberal elite bubble media circles and I really notice how I have to switch it up.
