My African ancestry is so intriguing.....

Bantu keeps popping up on every test ...
Lemba was #1 here, they identify with Bantu
then ethiopian Jewish pops up.....weird.
definitely taking some time tomorrow to really dig into all of my african roots.

but these results are definitely the most precise i've seen so far. fucking slayed me. :dead:
so i'mma go by this one and base all research off of it. I finally feel like I have a good breakdown of it all, instead of just blanket mess. (north african, west african, etc...way too general)

dhdhdh INVESTIGATE then
nnnnnnnn

i''m sorry but i'm amazed how just my sample can pick up what NA tribe my family belonged to and i was actually able to confirm it in like 10 minutes  :plzstop: :plzstop: :plzstop:

I feel more connected now ... just knowing that that tribe's blood is still inside of me. :stressed: my next step is breaking down these African tribes and info. its gonna be harder for obvious reasons ..(NA ancestry is easier to track down and connect since it was right here in the states and only 2 generations back....the African slave trade complicates research of our African roots) but I'm determined  :plzstop: :stressed:

I'd rather do this all day than spend it watching Hulu.  :stressed:
after my schoolwork is done tho. lolz. :letsmessfag:

Herb.

So I talked to my grandmother this morning......she was confused as to why my heritage didn't come up as Cherokee since that's what she was told from her mother.

At first I was like :udontlookok: Granny really? Cherokee? :dead: so cliche. but I did a little research on the background and once again, Granny was right. :dead: :dead: :dead: They changed their name from Cherokee to Lumbee...

QuoteIn 1911, the North Carolina General Assembly changed the name of the tribe to "Indians of Robeson County" and then in 1913 changed the tribe name again to "Cherokee Indians of Robeson County.  In 1952, the tribe voted to adopt the name Lumbee, and in 1956 the U.S. Congress officially recognized the tribe name change to Lumbee"
https://www.familytreedna.com/public/LumbeeTribe/

This is why her mother told her Cherokee, at that time during my grandmother's upbringing they were in fact identifying themselves as Cherokee Indians. My grandmother knows her shit. :dead: :dead: little details like this may seem trivial but it's amazing how this all checking out piece by piece.

My grandmother's very excited that I'm finding this stuff, she clearly knows her heritage very well, but she mainly is interested in the documents. She wants to see the marriage certificate, etc.

I feel kinda bad, lowkey....I think soon as someone says the word "Cherokee" a lot of us shut down. Because so many people claim it with no evidence to support it, it's like some weird trend someone made up and it spread like wildfire. So this morning when my grandmother said it, I have to admit I did a slight  :hmph: sssssssssssssss :loose2when: :loose2when: :loose2when: :loose2when: :loose2when: :loose2when: because I know she said it before, but I'm like ummm no Granny it's not fucking Cherokee, here's the proof :hmph: sdsdsddsdsssdsdssdsddssdsdsdsdsdssd

I need to stop doubting her :loose2when: :loose2when: :loose2when:

I think part of me wants to "teach" her something. like oooh Granny! now see u THOUGHT this, but LOOK! otherwise!!!!!  :receipts: aren't u amazed!  But she already knows all her fucking tea. :19k:  :plzstop:

imma find something wrong though. imma go to her fathers side now hehe :flamebroiled:

Herb.

OK now that we have my heritage in the states covered, time to fly overseas.
My African heritage is quite varied.....
and very interesting.

I'll start with the first result of DNA.... and just focus on the top ten hits for now.

WEST/SOUTH AFRICA

Bantu Tribes

I found it interesting that my hits for Bantu DNA is twice the normal amount for an African American......Again additional research must be done but for now I'll start with basics.

My top DNA hit was Lemba....This tribe is famously known as the "Black Jews of South Africa"
the first and kind of the only things I found once I started Googling them.
Which I found weird. The last thing I'd think about when I think Africans is Jewish association. :dead:
They are primarily located in Zimbabwe. :stressed:

More info:

Mandinka People of Sierra Leone

I was pleasantly surprised and honored to find that I have actual Mandingo warrior blood running through my veins. :dead: :flamebroiled: :receipts:
Mandinka is a tribe originally descended from Mali, later known as Mandingo.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandingo_people_of_Sierra_Leone

EAST AFRICA

Ethiopia

Honored to have the blood of such a beautiful people running through my veins. I,like many people, have always admired their aesthetics. Shout out to my full blooded Ethiopian sis GODman....u really are my lil sis :stressed: :flamebroiled: :receipts: :stressed:

Ethiopian (Jewish)

This makes the second time something Jewish related popped up in my DNA. My top match, the Lemba people of South Africa, identify as Jewish. Now it is showing I have roots in Beta Israel; again additional research will be required but this is very interesting.
