My parents talked a lot about education... knowledge is power, building self-esteem, being kind-hearted and "aware", etc.
That's how we grew up.

But also, most black parents don't get a chance to teach their children about black history...

What makes you feel this way though?

I don't know if it's a caribbean thing?
But we (my family) have never sat down and talked about BLACK HISTORY in depth
The shit is right in front of us, everyday... we talk about the present... and the challenges we may have.

Like, we know the basics of course.

But a real sit down... and here's a history lesson... no.
We know what it is.

Oh ok I see. That may be a Caribbean thing, or regional.
I grew up in the south so it was always a "you WILL know this shit" kinda situation :dead: both at home and at school.

It's funny you say that...
Cause as time goes on, on this forum and we have these discussions... a lot of our opinions STEM from our environments and where we live, etc.  I didn't grow up in the south, so I didn't experience what being black is like, in the South... you know?
So I get it.

Why expect more from them than you would of actual black parents. It's plenty of coons, raised by blacks, that don't know shit about black history.
dammit! beat me to '! :dead:

And I try to keep an open mind too...
Cause trust I KNOW the foolery of white people/some other races
:dead:
But sometimes I forget how crazy it may be down South, you know?
So we all have to keep that perspective.

my mother made it her business to teach me and all of my siblings about black history and the black experience.
She taught me what they wouldnt teach in schools..
she also made me read this really thick black history book..
i guess every household is different but my mom wasnt having it.
