Because what you're saying is that there is already enough evidence for him to be convicted in the court of public opinion - including his family. And that, in this instance where such strong evidence is present, you'd feel as if your sibling was guilty. IT seems like if the stronger evidence wasn't there, you'd accept the idea of them being innocent and would move to support them in greater ways . But -
