Oh goodness Raven is getting lashed pretty badly over this :dead:
She'll cry on air

Herb.

I used to hate my name growing up. it sounds like an old white man :dead:
i can't tell u how many times i was asked "who named u Herbert". mostly by other black people.

umm, my mother named me you ignorant, dumb fuck . :uhh: what an idiotic and offensive question to ask -- both to me and my parent.

but I'm not gonna lie, I LOVE my name now. gladly print that mess right on my resume
i think when u embrace urself others embrace u too. everyone plays with my name...Herb, Herbie, Sherbert, :dead: Herb the Luv Bug.....I think it fits me tho. i'm fun and a bit nerdy looking. and it's a nerdy name that's fun to play with :dead:

I keep seeing some black people trying to defend her talking about "you know this is a problem in our community"

Like...you're proud that someone is being discriminated against because their name points to them being black?

The name shouldn't matter because at the end of the fucking day we don't chose our names, our parents do. One could come from the hood and poverty but does that mean that person shouldn't be afforded an opportunity to be given a chance to change their situation? I swear sometimes I just wish...

I never saw the name issue as something huge in our community tbh.
If anything I always felt (growing up especially) that names which were deemed to be more ethnic were cooler.
I always thought the Derricks, Davons, etc. were cool.

I think the light skin dark skin thing is bigger than anything and is something deeply embedded in us from childhood. If people really wanna talk about "problems within the community".
I see no excuse for these comments Raven made, aside from sheer ignorance.

I think that's what bothers me the most. Like Black people are clearly not their own people. Why are we not allowed to have our own fucking ideals, names, culture and every other race is? Tf?

I mean it's no secret that if a CEO has to choose between Adam Wilson and DemQuan Johnikins he may just go with Adam :plzstop:

A disgusting truth but it's true. That being said; Raven should not have said she WOULDNT hire someone because of their name as she sits up there looking like a client on Cutting into the ATL. And then to use to the word discriminate; ugh. How dumb?

Maybe its a geographical thing.

Being from NYC, I should probably think more before dismissing "issues" others may bring up.

Cuz in such a melting pot like NYC, if a teacher wanted to keep their job they'd better keep that to themselves.
Where did you grow up?
