But my dad grew up in Guyana.  There is no asian culture.

So my experience is really the west indies.

But you'd have to meet me to understand.

I think it's different for someone who actually knows all of their heritage versus someone who doesn't know and is curious simply because a few people asked "What are you?".

It's new for me. So it's fun and interesting. And I'm not directly mixed. It's more so a mixed heritage.

But I get what Ralf means. At the end of the day regardless of what I find I am still Black. Listen to Black music, watched Black TV, grew up in Southside Queens. I connect with that more. I don't have time to learn a whole new culture. Don't care to either tbh.

because my dad isn't from china (not directly), or anything.

we're from guyana, long line of family. so i don't know how else to explain it.

There are Mexicans and Chinese people that were born in the states and don't speak the languages, does that make them something else because they didn't immerse themselves in the culture of their ancestors

i just think when you guys hear asian... subconciously you may group me into a grop that i don't belong in...
forgetting that you're talking to a black man. and me not being open for years... have allowed you all to create your own idea of me... that isn't black.  but the truth is, i am black and thats how identify myself.

no different than a white/black person saying "im black".
