Ashanti was also kinda at a disadvantage. She emerged around the same time Beyonc? was gaining ground as a solo artist, and had to fight off comparisons, whereas Ciara filled a void as a modern Janet archetype, and got to do her own thing.

So to stick by the actual question, I have to go with Ashitti. She stormed in and made a huge impact on pop (R&B) music AND culture with her debut. Ashanti started that whole "talentless pretty lightskinned gorl" movement in the early 2000s.
