As an Aaliyah fan since she came out, there was never some mass speculation about the 2 AS IT WAS HAPPENING. But I do recall the rumor that it was Michael, her dad, who was livid about everything.  And maybe Diane knew some of what was going on.  The rumor said Michael became Aaliyah's sole manager, hired bodyguards, and became very overprotective (that part is true), and it supposedly caused a marital rift between them because Michael wanted things to go much worse for Rape than they did.
