i actually do think the little boy realized he could manipulate or "control" the little monster version of himself, and he discovered that in the closet with his magic trick moment

I also don't think the sons were ever swapped cuz that monster boy has clearly always been that way, based on Red's monologue.

I REALLY enjoyed the movie and think they purposely left some things unanswered. There may not even be a wrong or right answer for some of these theories and i like that
