Well tbh I feel it has more to do with that actor being able to portray the essence of the character and not them physically looking like who they are portraying.  For instance Angela Bassett looked nothing like Tina to me, but she nailed that shit.

I can understand that and respect that.

BUt some people legit want that visual to be there. And they're not wrong or a coon for that just because Ariel appeared to be Whiter.

That's totally unfair.
It's okay hun

I'm just glad I was able to find an example of a woman (who has a reputation for being pro-Black) saying that she prefers nonfictional and fictional characters to look the same as they do in cartoons.

I don't stand in my mess to make anyone on this board upset. I stand in what I say because I truly believe there is logic to it.

Now, if a Black person is sitting around rolling their eyes at a totally NEW Black cartoon (like Princess Tiana), I'd side eye them. Because there's literally nothing to complain about. If you don't like the new cartoon don't go see it.

I'm now wondering if this were the original tea that the creators wanted to give and Disney execs made them scrap it in favor of a melanin free  Ariel.

I doubt it.

I think Disney is shooting their shot in this whole "melanin poppin"/Black girl magic era.
They see there's money to be made and are going for it.

It's to be expected so I'm not clapping for Disney
But I'm so so happy for those little Black girls who will see this.

Yes you can be a princess too. Yes you can be feminine and beautiful.
Or it could just be that Halle embodied the character more than any of the other girls that auditioned
