I'm now wondering if this were the original tea that the creators wanted to give and Disney execs made them scrap it in favor of a melanin free  Ariel.

I doubt it.

I think Disney is shooting their shot in this whole "melanin poppin"/Black girl magic era.
They see there's money to be made and are going for it.

It's to be expected so I'm not clapping for Disney
But I'm so so happy for those little Black girls who will see this.

Yes you can be a princess too. Yes you can be feminine and beautiful.

Or it could just be that Halle embodied the character more than any of the other girls that auditioned
