I'm VERY black in my Nene Leakes' voice and I don't want her as Ariel. Sorry, I don't see it.  And I felt this way about the casting choices for all of the live action princesses. I hated Mia as Alice, I hated Lily James as Cinderella, I hated Elle Fanning as Aurora, I hated Emma Watson as Belle, and I hated Naomi Scott as Jasmine. It's sad when the princes were better cast, especially Aurora's Prince Phillip. 

I think Zendaya should have played Ariel. I can see her as Ariel and I think most people would have accepted that better than Halle who gives me ET/Splice/Corpse Bride. That's no shade to Halle.

Black people keep saying white tears and all of that but we're gonna need those white tears to show up in order for this movie to be a success. The male audience regardless of color will not be there like they were for Black Panther. Making an iconic character who is beloved by so many little girls and women age 40+ different in such a way can definitely cause a backlash. And if the movie bombs then what? They will blame it on Disney hiring Bailey.

That's SJW speak. Just because I disagree about the hiring of Halle doesn't mean I hate myself. That's absurd. I'm all for the casting of someone of color just not Halle.

Ariel is an iconic character that has been around for 30 years. ICONIC! She as we know her is emblazoned in our minds. You don't think there was gonna be a shit storm when they drastically changed her looks? I doubt anyone would care if Halle played Esmeralda or even Meg from Hercules. You don't experiment with Ariel and for that I agree with the backlash.
