Yes, Jay-Z has done a lot, but also he has GREAT opportunities and resources. Others are still trying to figure out, how to fit into a society that is not built for them. They are searching for their own opportunities and have to do so before they are able to help others. Hip Hop is allowing, many black people to sit in board rooms that they were never able to enter in the past, and be their authentic selves.  I think that Jay-Z and many celebrities like him, are a bit naive to how life works for the average black person.  They have built brands for themselves through hip-hop which allowed them to skip over many levels of the corporate process. The average black man, does not get to sit in board rooms, with short dreads and a t-shirt and explain how he feels.

This is why it is important for black leaders to have the black community in their best interest, because we are otherwise grossly under represented.  I think this is why the community responses harshly when  they feel betrayed by those that are sitting at those tables and able to have those discussions.
