yummy

The thing is, I don't mind the cliches and stereotypes Tyler uses. I get him wanting to use those as a device to push a deeper message and relate to this audience. And whether we wanna admit it or not, those storylines are an everyday reality for a lot of black folks.

The problem is he doesn't know how to pace his storylines or flesh out characters beyond being archetypes. A writing staff could help him do this, and he'll get to stay true to whatever moral lessons he wants to push on his fans.

Even Tyler admits that his shows didn't "save" Own but  Oprah's tenacity did.
It's called humility.
Humility?! whilst this nigga boasts about being the sole writer of his shows and not needing the ideas or writing expertise of  others.
WHOOPS!  :kii:

Although I believe in bringing in fresh talent, etc...

I agree with Afro's first opinion about this being similar to an artist creating their own work.

which is fine if the mess is GOOD

Great or terrible... TP is creating his own work as a black individual... and that's just really the point - not really debating his talent. Art is subjective. But the man is still in business. Hopefully this will inspire other black individuals to do the same - and it'll be a bonus if we actually love the work.

We give lots of people flowers and they are praised throughout the black community, so that "find sumn wrong" comment is kinda bullshit. Ava  Duvernay, Jordan Peele, even someone like Spike Lee who u don't love all the work but u respect them for their efforts. Let's not muddy the waters. Nice studio but his work is terrible

but see that's NOT the point in here. that may be the only or main point for you and i can respect that, but that wasn't the point of this conversation. the point of this conversation was to compare his "revelation" of not having a writing room to the actual quality of his work. art is indeed subjective. this is also a fantastic excuse to stand behind when your work is, in actuality, lacking. this is where we have to use our intellectual intelligence. the quality if his work is simply not up to par with that of his peers. and the differences have little/nothing to do with artistic choice.

Defeats the purpose of his "preparing of the table" IMO

Preparing a seat at your own table ...  strictly for yourself. I just hope he knows the optics of it aren't very good at ALL  :dead:  regardless of what his intent may be.

True tea.

Am mean....That's exactly why I feel a lot of these attacks on the characters are an attack on what a Black existence or experience means for many people in a sense. People may not mean it that way and I can understand that but it's like.....  Especially when it's all dripping with condescension (and I do feel the condescending vibe is usually intentional).

I can understand critiquing Tyler. Like, he's not "God". But some of the teas kinda rub me the wrong way. That's all.
that other bolded line is honestly my biggest gripe
