Just they other day a Chinese business owner owed a local man some money for a job. And the business owner offered up his wife as payment. The man refused and said "I've had enough of your wife. I want my money now!" 
Local guy was muscled and strapped as well. So May Lin was most likely getting stretched to her limits.
