But why does everyone have to make music like Adele tho?

I don't think it has to Sound like it but the content/lyrics have to be universal if you want universal or mass interest.

If you're singing your heart out about wanting a hood nigga and hood love you obviously want to appeal to a hood demographic and not a universal demographic.

I think that's why Mary's Breakthrough, Brandy's NSN, Keyshia's just like me, Monica TBIM, Alicia keys, etc... We're successful
Ok so Jazmine has a song called Mona Lisa/Masterpiece
and she has Let It Burn out right now
they do not have "hood" lyrics and yet they flopped
what's your explanation for that?

Sis I agree

It's so sad

We need big name artist attending the BET and Soul Train awards
We need those Mowtown Lives, the Divas duets

We need mainstream support again.

And ABC special or CBS special where all of today's R&B artist have a platform to promote . There's no reason why they're selling 30k

!!!! Now that I think about it, I'm starting to believe it has to do with the black's crab in a barrel mentality. R&B thrived in the 90's and 00's because it made a lot of $$$. The black culture as a whole was IN back then. Now it's not. So there's no major machine behind the genre. Instead they would rather put a pale face on it and market it that way and I don't blame them tbqfh.

That's just it. The industry is making the face of "R&B" White. A White person singing R&B music gets played on all formats and gets label support for days. Black artists only get played at Urban.

For example KIIS-FM, a top 40 radio station, is the biggest station in Los Angeles. Drake's "Hotline Bling" has been everywhere, but whenever KIIS plays the song they ALWAYS play this version:

Like, if you didn't know any better you would think it's the official mess.
I feel like this is just another way to put a White face on Black music.

I'm also here in Houston visiting right now, and my mom keeps it on the Urban AC station where they play more grown up & old school R&B. Tell me why I'm hearing Adele & Ed Sheeran being played regularly.

Gilgamesh.

I just realised, BET did't do their Christmas special this year.
They usually have a bunch of R&B artists on their singing Christmas Carols.

They made it worse by cancelling 106 and park

The show could have been reformatted, since no one watches music videos on tv anymore.

Like, I'm looking at RCA's roster right now, and they could take their R&B girls:

- Jazmine
- Fantasia
- Jennifer Hudson
- Monica
- Elle Varner

Book them an arena date and give them a chance to show out a bit.
Price the tickets reasonably and I think all of them combined could do it.

Rappers tour together at arenas and it WORKS.

BET is a part of the agenda. Cancelling 106 and that channel is slowly becoming a strictly TV show and movie channel. When was the last time the played music videos?

Its also lack of tv shows. Back then we had mtv diary, mtv fanatic, planet groove, trl, 106 and park, room raiders, access granted, cribs etc.

Now all we have is instagram :dead:

yeah its mostly we need to support but how can we support when moat of todays rnb music just isnt good lol

Boy. Not when you go up for the most generic poppy, glow stick mess out there.

I honestly don't think you're a fan of R&B music in general outside of a couple of people.

And that's no shade. It's just a vibe I get.

We live in the age of social media. No one's rushing home to watch Beyonce premiere her new vidya on 106 & Porch anymore.  :dead:
