It's not tacky it's necessary.... If Whoopi accepting it and she's one of the biggest black actress in history they'll expect lesser people to accept it or less. Saying this will put pressure on them and might even put pressure on her (I doubt it though) to pay her what she's worth. Hell she's won all the major awards she's technically the most famous person on the show and she's probably not being paid the most
