With Brandy, it's typically not about what she can or can no longer do

She's very intentional. If she wanted to give "Human", for the most part she absolutely can.

Her next project will be something else entirely I'm sure. Look at the difference between Unconditional Oceans and Lucid Dreams, or Borderline

Sounds like 3 different singers in spots :kii:

All singers have vocals in spots they cannot control

Im not accepting everything is intentional

she wasn't able to match alot of her original recordings vocally (in terms of tonality)

if she can magically make her voice do what it wanted at all times
everything would be seamless

but one sounds like a 18 year old and some sounds like 40 year old drunk

she can do everything still the timbre shes not as in control of as we like to pupport or the ability to control it has diminished
age sometimes cant be skirted around

we cant kwoss de lieeennnee  :kii: :kii: :kii: her diction is now suffering trying to push certain tones

Looking back at Human today I think it's some of her best vocals. But I think when she started smoking weed it changed her voice (but that happens when you smoke). She has vocals today but they sound more raw as opposed to sounding pure.

Y'all need to stop...

Brandy can take u back to Human vocally today if she wants to...
she sounds different on every albums she puts out, simply because the vibe of each album is different from the other but u can always find vocals that sounds just like the previous album.

and B7 is clearly the album when u can (vocally) find a piece of all of her vocal eras. (i.e. Bye Bipolar is Human type of vocals 100%) ... some of y'all need to stop... every artist's voice always and constantly evolve as they age. Brandy brandy's one of those whose voice gets even better with time and that's a damn fact. A lotta of artist in their 40s can't even perfectly sing songs from their debut... ch...

oh and y'all need to stop acting like bran smokes weed every damn day or every time she's in the studio. that's not the case. her voice would be gone by now.

she clearly cannot pull off the that innocent tone you hear on
first & love
Do you know
or Talk to me

She feels BABY TALK will achieve it
that speaks to a more grittier vocal iteself

good thing is we dont really need that to enjoy her voice (that tonality being the thing is in her head)

oh well then u might not have heard some of the vocals and harmonies on B7 ... i don't know what some of y'all are listening' to cause...

i'm not gon dissect every song on B7 to prove u wrong  (which u are ! sorry! lol) but take a closer listen to her album and u'll see/hear lol

just because the full songs don't sound like her previous work doesn't mean she can't sing like that , there are always elements here and there... plus u havent heard all the unreleased songs that didn't make the cut for the new album.

some her harmonies on the 3rd chorus of SAML are as innocent/pure and airy as her voice on the chorus of 1st & love....  and the "ur love ur love ur love ur love" on the bridge of that song are some of the type of vocals u can also hear on Do You know...
like come on now guys...  :uhh: :uhh: :uhh: :uhh: :uhh:

I said some of this about 2 years ago. I'm glad some people get it.

I remember interviews where she said some songs were very high for her. When you hear some of these bg vocals on Afro for example you hear she loves to play around with these low notes. Maybe it is just comfortable for her and she has freedom to right her own songs and to sing it how she wants it. I also hear a lot of Human era...but she can probably do everything (Optimistic is not that old right). Let's not forget the computer thought her voice was a robot  :dead: she has a lot of control.

Lyrically I get what Lew is saying, definitely a stream of consciousness sometimes..and raw, unpolished sometimes.. She chose those words about mental disorders, there must definitely be something more to it..but maybe she is not always ready to explain or make a conclusion. Maybe it should be left open for interpretation. I'm curious how we will look back on this era in three years.

ur example speaks more to the tonality of wish your love away chorus or Put it down chorus
only do you know really eased in to the tone were speaking of and im sure thats just because of where her voice was during that recording

As I said there are times where her vocals are in that sweet spot  where it sounds a bit more natural
BUT SHES DEFINITELY PUSHING AND FORCING THAT TONE THESE DAYS CAUSE ITS UNATURAL TO HER NORMAL VOICE AT THIS POINT

even on the census concert you take a listen to those rerecorded vocals they sounds amazing yes but very forced in terms of trying to re create that tone and sound

the original baby mama her voice sounded gritty

but on the actuall recording her voice was in the sweet spot for the tone yet still didnt give what she was going for

you cant claim on one had that the voice ages but  yet can freely sound like all ages

there is a tradeoff somewhere

You expect her to sound exactly the same as she did in her 20's?

Her voice is fine.

Yeah I noticed when she started smoking her breath control dropped immediately
she runs out of breath alot easier these days
Also why almost none of her songs are full lines of lyrics
its all mini vocal comps (which sets her up for failure live most times)
and now we have more raw sounding vocals
smoking definitely contributes to that
but if shes not doing it alot its not going to affect the voice to much
unless she was lightin up everyday for those 8 years :plzstop:
shes just been lazy

Punching in vocals is not indicative of bad breath control. She's always done that and especially on Full Moon. Did she need to quit smoking then? And those songs you mentioned where her tone was "innocent" were more than likely vocally altered in production. I mean Rodney obviously pitched her mess up on Human

ReVonIsMine

FIRST of all Brandy has been smoking weed since she was a teen. Not to mention she smokes cigarettes from time to time.
