the gorls be saying off the wall stuff about Tyler but have never really dug IN to his mess.

i honestly think you'd be impressed if you gave the movies a chance. they all tackle different things.

DOAMBW digs into the whole "angry black woman" mess and gives some insight into their plight that leads to their "anger"
Family That Preys touches on the separation of Black families that can occur when money is involved..some of the family stays in the hood and others move out and progress
I Can Do Bad All By Myself touches on the familial dynamics of Black women and generational curses .
Good Deeds shows Black people in executive, powerful positions who want to do well by others.

Like, it's not just a bunch of eating fried chicken and being "ghetto"
Tyler HAS shown range in his work. And a lot of his work has MEANING and purpose to it. Messages that are powerful.

Like, really get INTO his mess before you blow him off.
his real mess when he digs in. Not the lil sitcoms he throws out.

I'm sorry but there is a "cheapness" to a lot of his work no shade

He's too established for some of the mess I've seen in lot of his movies/shows

And the editing...

Wigs DISHEVELED and LOPSIDED in different scenes

And his scripts aren't all that

I see why a lot of his mess gets shunned

!!! I've seen all of these too. Multiple times. They aren't horrible films... but I'm absolutely not seeing the range and versatility. They all basically have the same underlying theme and plot.

i honestly dont think tyler had anything to do with those black shows that began popping up

i remember the newest wave kinda starting with Scandal. if im not wrong
and that show wasn't much like anything he was producing at the time
now if ABC started pushing a show with a southern drag queen grandma and mess then I'd say yeah he started some sort of trend.

he literally just gave us mess to vibe with while we were in yet another gap of Black tea

as we waited for blackness and black content to become "in" again amongst the big networks and production companies.

for that alone he earned my luv.

"Playas Club" wasn't some blockbuster budget production mess

but it's a fuckin classic.
a lot of people would probably put that movie in the same "i dont get it" pile with Tylers mess tbh.

give me a good movie with a few laughs and a nice storyline. im not making sure the lighting crew is on point

i dont think there's anything amazingly prolific about tyler's movies

they're just a really good watch

i doubt siskel & ebert would have left the theatre with both thumbs up for "playas club"
