i think a lot of black people hide behind a "omf so many stereotypes! i cant take it! 😩 " mess as they throw darts onto Tyler's back...

but a lot of those same people will plop down to watch and enjoy a show like The Parkers

...which is chock full of stereotypes. Mo'nique playing an overweight , loud , unambiguously Black woman who dropped out of school and had a baby before she got out of high school.

normalizing the regular consumption of alcohol - popping open a bottle of Alize' in every other episode...

dsfsddfsdfsfdssdfdsf

or sit down to watch "African"-ness be made fun of in Coming 2 America. :omf: with not one complaint.

not saying EVERY Tyler critic does this but it's like please. :disgusted:
ur not outraged about a stereotype mess. And ur  NOT as sophisticated and above it all as you'd like to believe you are . ur mad at a Black man being at the helm and actually putting the profits in his pockets for once.
ur problem is with HIM. and his success.

Project started: 2014 Wrapped up: 2024

Significant Discovery: First known Black American family of Kalmyk descent

Takeaways: Be prepared to pivot, even when you think you're on the right track. Be OK with being wrong so you can get things right.

Kalmyks are tribal Mongolic people who settled in Russia. It's estimated that only 300,000 Kalmyk descendants exist worldwide - with only 3,000 in America.

I think the problem is a lot of people don't see the beauty of all types of black people being represented. We are not a monolith . I've seen Tyler put forth a lot of different representations of us .

From the neck roller with two baby daddies , to the business / corporate minded woman who's all about her career and coins , to a Black CEO running the show , to the downlow man hiding the truth from his wife .

guess what. There are people out there who can connect to each of these characters in some way.
Nope not a problem at all. I love watching all representations on my screens. The problem is he doesn't write that imo.  You're right we all do something stereotypical everyday but that's just another layer to the person. We are all more than what meets the eye and he never writes that type of character, everything is face value. Prime example, the DL Dude you mentioned from colored girls. Who was he? What made him tick? How did he get to the point of getting head in the alley or checking out another guy while spending quality time with his wife? You know people who have done those actions but you don't know people like him because we never got to meet the character. Everything with Tyler shows and movies are all plot devices which carries no weight with me.

The beauty in watching Viola Davis play Annalise Keating was because it has never been done before. That was the first and only time I have witnessed a fully realization of a black female on television, she was many different character types  put into one Character. Now that's relatable, aspirational, and real!

I will agree to disagree with you on this one. Tyler to me is no better than those filmmakers of the 30s & 40s when all we played was butlers and maids. You knew ours name and who we served and that's it! I just expect more from black filmmakers especially one of Tyler's caliber today.
Some really great posts in here but i loved this. Very valid, honest critique IMO. I don't even think Tyler could be mad at this

of course u mention his classics when discussing his work
have u seen ALL of these? he's shown range/versatility

diary of a mad black woman
family that preys
i can do bad all by myself
good deeds
madea's family reunion
for colored girls...
why did i get married (too)

Tyler was producing Black content for the gorls when it wasnt COOL and "in" to do it
back when we were in that GAP between the UPN black sitcom wave and the "Scandal"/"Black-ish" era.

i treasured that. and will always love him for that

#neverfuckinforget

Tyla is a genius
WHen I heard he did  that a fall from grace in 5 days
and acrimony in 8 days

Now  tyler doesnt needs to let go of those 3 extra days cause acrimony didnt have those technical errors
but even with the errors the movie was grreat

he does need some writers
but him and his production is just amazing
like hes literally a black man in controll of all his works and have a huuuuuuuuuuuuge platform to churn out content and keep actors employed
woooo

BLACK PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS FOCUSED ON THE WRONG THING TRYING TO TEAR THIS MAN DOWN
AND BEING SO NEGATIVE BECAUSE HES MAKING THE CONTENT HE WANTS :plzstop: :kii:
HES A KING AN ICON A LEGEND AND A PIONEER AND FRANKLY WE NEED A WAX AND MARBLE STATUE OF HIM
BECAUSE ITS EASY TO LET TIME PASS AND TURN YOUR NOSE BUT HE IS AMAZING AND HE IS LOVED

uHH EXSCUSE ME

ALL REPRESENTATION MATTERS  and even in tyler perrys world its  many different ones
for colored girls the character development of men wasnt important the focus was the many different facets of colored girls and how they experience life which also showed various representations.

first off how bout we discuss Shondaland and her need to represent professional black women with white men or how easily her and olivia pope was just a pawn in biggger white mans game no matter how high they went

there is a negative tradeoff with all of them because its not on the back of one person or filmaker to carry the weight of representing everyone

and that role really wasnt written for viola davis and she had leverage her star power with peter nowalk to display annalise in that light most of the time so  he can save that shit

token blackism is not the top of the list of representations
interracial relationships is not at the top of the list either

tyler has his agenda
shonda has hers
spike has his
ava has hers
mara brock has hers

what were not going to do  is throw away our only mediums for any self-representation because it isnt packaged the way we want it

it all matters and is all relatable like the nigga said from jump

Love Tyler but his actors who play gay men go out of their way to let it be known that they're "straight! definitely not gay!" and give shitty performances whenever anything same-sex-romance is portrayed to convey that they're not enjoying it. Very lanes
