I think the purpose of a pageant like this is to celebrate black beauty. But I guess crowning her kinda defeats the purpose that having black victors in beauty pageants are rare. Not everyone is a Kenya Moore. The winner kinda fits what the typical winner of a beauty pageant.

But ur right. If she's black, she's black.

d

Im almost certain those dragging her would also drag her if she claimed she was white and they found out she was mixed

It's a double edged sword. The girls forced mixed people to be black but when they join in on black things the girls get upset and say they arent black enough.

her brother definitely looks "mixed".
u can see the Black in him.
so she's not pretending to be something she's not. she just took more after her non-black side of the family.

i get why people are upset but its kinda sad for her. cuz she's apparently not Black enough, nor would she ever be accepted as white. she's definitely one of those people that fall in between somewhere.

Ok I can see it in this pic. But Yeah, she shouldn't be penalized for having pale skin. If there's some black in there, then she qualifies. And maybe she was just a better contestant overall. Do you vanilla sky!

Blacks aren't the only people who can be divisive.

Whites are actually the most divisive when it comes to race.
They're the ones who developed the one drop rule.  :plzstop:

If you don't appear pure, you're not one of them.

If anything Blacks have always been super inclusive. A green eyed white woman with a curly wig ran the NAACP for years without question until her parents spilled tea.  :plzstop: We've always adhered to the one drop rule, and even ENFORCED it when we felt the need to.

I understand where my sisters are coming from. If they see someone that clearly doesn't have to face the same struggles as they do, personally or socially, they don't want her to represent them. They have a right to feel that way.

Not saying I agree 100%, I'm seeing this from all sides, but I definitely understand their side. It's a good conversation.
!!

I dunno why people keep trying to shit on us

What race is more accepting than us?  :plzstop: :plzstop: (Unless you're a Fag)

She can be a black ally and she can also consider herself black but she can't become the standard for black beauty. that's my opinion. I see myself as black because most of the time I pass as such and I am perceived as such, but still if a true black person calls me mixed instead of black that is accurate too.

Who is that a beauty standard to other than black people who are colorists? Of course pale skin is celebrated worldwide but the light skin dark skin debate is magnified by 10000000 within the black community.

And judging by the logic this "indian" looking girl would be the standard.

Here's the thing. All of us if we were in attendance at this pageant wouldve been giving this chick the side eye, even a little bit. The reason for instituting a black only pageant is to highlight black beauty, not the typical European look that is normally the winner of pageants. The fact that the chick that looks the most like a Miss Universe won kinda defeats the purpose. They should just be done with pageants like these period and just have it be inclusive of everyone because of things like this. As soon as u attach a label to it, it becomes a problem.

I just don't understand that when comes to beautiful black women and their lists 9 out of ten are hardly black. If you make a point to label it black beauty, make it at least so that actual black people have a chance at competing. Cause a dark Bantu woman will never live up to a Halle type face and she shouldn't have to be measured by that. These girls are mulato beauties or beauties period. They can be socially and culturally black. But beauty is about phenotype not ancestry nor culture.

Speak for yourself because i definitely would not have.  Im a grown rational thinking adult and i know that black doesn't have one look and isn't one thing.  Ya'll are killing me with this "that's why the pageant was Instituted" im sure it was Instituted to appreciate blk women in general, not a specific TYPE of blk woman :dead:
like if u don't have an afro or a specific skin tone then ur not black enough to be in the shit. Black looks like too many things to be excluding people based on YOUR perception of what "real black" is.  So because her beauty is more of the standard she shouldve been disqualified? I dont even think y'all realize how u sound. In order to appreciate this type of beauty lets completely shun and overlook another type of beauty. Like :uhh:
If they wanted all these bitches to be in dashikis and kinky twists then that shouldve been in the guidlines. And aren't beauty pageants based on a multitude of things anyway? Maybe the bitch was just the overall best damn contestant.  I cant take it :plzstop:

They literally don't. Black women don't come in all shades. There is a line. If might be different for everyone. But there is such thing as white passing. A white passing black person can never win a contest for black beauty. That is ridiculous.

You clearly don't understand why there is Muss Black Texas peagant in the first place and a Miss White Texas would be frowned upon. It's a retaliation to systemic racism and counters the underpromotion and misrepresentation of black women. Women who actually pass as white have no need for compensatory events such as Miss Black Texas.

Yeah I relaxed my hair. But there is no beauty standard for men which says men with fried hair look better. It's the opposite. So the logic doesn't apply. Joc is not exalted or praised for straight hair. Black men don't face discrimination for naps either.

If anything I acknowledge the racist world I live in and that it can come handy to pass as Middle Eastern instead of black sometimes. It can be convenient. Doesn't make the system right.

The woman that relaxes is not the problem, the institution that celebrates relaxed hair is.

The same logic applies to black men. The fact that you even permed your hair invalidates whatever you're trying to argue.

Also, biracial =/= white

Not sure why you're trying to mix the two together .

Put a white woman and a biracial woman side by side and you will clearly see the difference no matter how "light" the latter is. What is your point anyway?

I don't even think I assimilate though. Maybe subconsciously but really I had never done it in my teenage years, so now I just tried it out. I'm sure I'll be tired of it soon. But I never shamed people for wearing straight hair. I blame magazines for celebrating it.

I didn't do it for that reason. I responded to the comment I might have made in the past. That if at all, it just meant you play along. Personally I did it cause I will cut it all off soon anyways. I don't have issues with being seen in natural hair because as a man you really don't get shamed for that. And looking more Middle Eastern is only cute in the ghey world, otherwise being black is actually better received that being a sand nigger.

You clearly don't understand why there is Miss Black Texas peagant in the first place and a Miss White Texas would be frowned upon. It's a retaliation to systemic racism and counters the underpromotion and misrepresentation of black women. Women who actually pass as white have no need for compensatory events such as Miss Black Texas.

I get it.  There does need to be some more brown and dark skinned wins in those pageants.  I saw that at my school, too.

But we don't know the conditions of this particular competition, either.  This girl might have put in a lot of work for the win. Most of the times these girls have to kind of campaign for it for years.  They have to become a member of some popular organizations on campus, be seen at the big functions, do a bunch of mandatory preliminary pageant functions before they can win enough of their peers' votes.

The person who wins Miss whatever University usually has participated and placed in the Miss Freshman pageant, Miss Sophomore, and on up.  So this girl probably put in the effort for years to get the win.

So are y'all saying to take away all that girl's efforts because she doesn't look black enough?

Either way in America you'd still be listed as a minority and nowhere near white passing.

No one can take you seriously in this thread when you're applying the same black beauty standards to yourself to make you look less black.

That is just the truth as far as people having to assimilate for social privileges. I don't think I did it for that reason but maybe subconsciously it played a role. Even so there is no shame in it. That's why we all agree that cultural appropriation by whites is not comparable to cultural assimilation by coloreds.

That's just how you feel about yourself which explains the perming and trying to look anything but black.

Why are some of you acting like racial pride is a new concept?

Especially when Blacks have been embracing and enforcing the white-created one drop rule (which is based off of white racial pride) for generations. In fact, the one drop rule is probably why people are confused about a lot of this. We've always followed the rule that if there's one drop, you're Black.

Asians don't follow that rule. Nor do white people. Asians would not accept that girl you posted as Asian, no matter how many pics of her mom she showed them. Are they "self haters"?

So let's stop acting like racial pride is this new, fresh, confusing concept. It's been in place for quite some time now. It just never really started making its way into the Black community until recently.

These Black women are beginning to remove  their European looking wigs and weaves, loving themselves genuinely and are no longer worshipping what appears to be mixed. That is racial pride. A lot more of them are, at least. Because I still know some Black women who think anything non-Black or non-Black looking is better.

she's trash hun

I don't know why people act like there isn't a Black phenotype.

Brown skin and kinky hair is the Black phenotype. There are variations and exceptions but why are we skating around this?

The further a person is away from this phenotype, the less Black they are considered or assumed to be.

Granted, I personally fully embrace and acknowledge Black diversity and accept we come in many forms. But let's just cut to the peach cobbler pie of what reality is on a larger scale.

If I told any lies in this post, point them out.

That's exactly what I've been saying when you flaunted your mostly mixed wet and wavy girls (Tatyana, Stacy, Chilli, etc) the  as dark skin black girls.

That's exactly what I've been saying when you flaunted your mostly mixed wet and wavy girls (Tatyana, Stacy, Chilli, etc) the  as dark skin black girls.

But yeah, you are right.
Well, they all do have dark skin. Except Stacy, who dipped herself in Clorox.

And all can easily be seen as Black. Tatyana played a Black girl in a Black family on Fresh Prince, Chilli was part of a black girl group, Stacy was the Black sidekick on Clueless. You can look at them and clearly see they are Black.

And let's not leave out Kenya. or Lark Voorhies. Easily passable as Black as well.

The United States has always had this weird phenomenon of casting mixed girls as full black daughters. As a kid I used to ask my parents if the Fresh Prince kids were mixed too, cause they looked like me. And they explained to me no. And I thought, I guess.

Later I realized in actually lots of them are in fact mixed (Tatyana, Hillary Banks, the Mowrys, Yara on Black'ish) and sooo many more. It's as if mixed doesn't exist. How is a pure black person going to live up to Tia and Tamera's looks?

You can celebrate them Afro, but call a spade a spade. You don't have a thing for darker skin black women. But darker skin woman who are mixed with black.

It would otherwise make it impossible for non-mixed black girls to try and live up to how Tatyana or Chilli look. You clearly adore their naturally loose textured in combination with their Mahagony skin. That's ur thing.

Black people are weird.

They get pissed when biracials will claim any side but their black side but at the same time will shun them away and say they're not really black even when they choose to identify as such.

I looked at myself and looked at them and looked at my black family and my non-black family. Most of them on TV looked like me as not like my black
Side, so my 9 year old self figured they were also mixed. Turns out Tatyana and Hillary are indeed mixed. Her name was Ali. I always thought she could have Middle Eastern background when I saw the credits.

I am actually mixed and I have pure black family so I would have a different perspective on this than a country that sees Mariah Carey as black.

Strictly as far as beauty and esthetics. In regards to cosmetics, fashion and hair care, why can't they just be mixed. You can be culturally and politically one of the two races but not phenotypicallg or esthetically. It's stupid.

I kinda get what Malc is saying though. I have to admit that finding out so many of the stars on TV growing up were mixed, it was a little thought provoking, to say the least. I have to back him up on that.

But I was NOT sitting there wondering as a child, "Wow what is she mixed with".

But I'm from NYC, there's a lot of variety. Nothing alarming about a black dark skinned woman with looser hair or curlier hair. But there are some people who think like that. I noticed in the south people are more inclined to think that way.

Maybe its a geographical thing?

In the south where? Certainly not here

I'm almost certain it's not by accident.

The whites are hijacking the "black" category with mixed folk and make blacks hate themselves in the process.

Niggers who bleach don't want to be white, they want to be "prettier" blacks.

I think the point is that if someone who looked like Tia/Tamera, or Maia Campbell or (younger) Stacey Dash won a Black beauty contest, no one would question or be up in arms about it. Because they CLEARLY have Black ancestry running through their veins.

But, I see why people are upset that someone who appears to have no noticeable Black heritage is crowned Black Beauty Kwee. :plzstop: Does that make sense?

Yeah at least don't pass as completely non-black. The mentioned girls couldn't deny their African ancestry. This peagant girl easily could.

right. black became so much more than features and hair to me. If you were in the struggle it didn't matter

I realized different shades of being black was kinda MOOT when I saw the vids of light skinned blacks being hosed down with darker skinned blacks. It's the same struggle

I know it stems back to slavery and even beyond that, but wonder what is the cause of this recent resurgence of colorism

That's just foolish honestly. Black people do this so much and don't even realize it and they wonder why biracial people act the way they do. Exactly.

This is why a lot of people are having issue with this beauty kwee. They can't see the Black in her. I think if there was more of a hint of Black, regardless of whether she's light or whatever, this thread wouldn't even exist. Blacks are HIGHLY inclusive.

Now, I think that if this woman were being honored for outstanding scholastic efforts, or becoming a supreme court judge, etc. and she identified as Black, no one would have a problem with it. The gorls would rally in support. Just as we did Jesse Williams when he made his speech on BET. And he looks more white than Black.

But it's the fact that this is a BEAUTY contest. And has been crowned as the ultimate Black beauty -- but has no noticeable trace of Black in her. What message does that send?

Hope that makes sense. :sobusyjetsetter:

That's what I've been saying. She can't represent black BEAUTY. Talent, wits, etc sure. Not the beauty contest though.

What's wrong with being mixed. You can still identify with your black side and be pro-black. But it's nothing wrong with acknowledging your mixed. It's a different reality from blacks.

The argument that mixed and black have exactly the same struggle is also stupid.

Light skin Privilege is real, and white colonial money through one side of the family is real too.

Nobody said biracials can't identify as black, they simply cannot embody black beauty. They can't reintroduce new beauty standards for hair styles or skin tones.

That's what I have been saying the entire time.

U sound like a hurt white person tbh. It's giving me All Lives Matter and patronizes the hardships of dark skin black people.

No you just sound ridiculous.

Pure black this, mixed that, beauty standard this, blah blah. Looking on your tv screen wondering who is mixed and fully black at 9 years old. The hell were your parents teaching you?

You sound like a coon out of the south during segregation honestly.

Are you color blind? What in the white people all lives matter hell?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with seeing color. It has been natural to me. It doesn't mean I judge anyone, i just realize people look differently. Which people in the US obviously don't know how to do. That's why they will say some shit like "I don't even see you as black". It's ok to see if someone is mixed or black. It's a reality.

Everybody sees color but some people are just OBSESSED with it and you're one of those types. This thread looks like Lipstick Alley

When you say just a regular light skin black person, why do you think they are so damn light in the first place. I mean I get it no one wants to claim that skavery rape mess. I just don't get the surprise of actually I do. Because the media erases mixed people from the public conscienceness. You have to think three times to realize Lenny Kravitz is mixed. Or Sade. Or Bob Marley.

I don't see the joke. Dark skin black women and dark skin mixed women are not the same. That was my point exactly.

Just giving the raw truth. But you guys want to act oblivious. "human race, One and the same! Colors of the rainbow!"

An olive skin Mexican looking girl with straight hair and strong Euro/Latino features named black beauty queen is problematic as fuck. But if you can't see it I'm not surprised blacks have so many self esteem issues.

I think it's a level of education on the subject, but I digress. I know Afro has been doing a lot of reading up on colorism, texturism etc.. So I am not surprised he gets it.

:letsmessfag:
I was honestly gonna leave it alone because debating on here has become tedious, but it was a worthwhile topic so why not.

Imma stop here though.

I get where you're coming from on SOME of your mess.

Yeah I can't completely co-sign everything you said. But I'll leave it some time to get there.

Also realizing it makes no sense. It takes a certain level of research IMO. Otherwise they will just be faux-offended.

I recommend everybody get informed. Xoxo

The argument patterns are literally All
Live Matters ones.

--- Biracials have struggles too!!! Torn between two worlds!! See everybody has equal struggles!
--- You are too concerned with race, not everything is about race. Don't make this a race thing!!!
--- We are all one. Why are you so divisive...

Blah blah blah

I actually understand what mal is saying regarding biracial people representing black people -- but reality is, like mentioned before, we're inclusive.

Light, brown, dark, or whatever, black people are never going to not claim someone just because they're half white  :dead: :dead: That's not who we are as a people.... not in America at least.

Also Malcolm you're probably getting pushback because it is hard to take someone shouting BLACK PRIDE!! with a damns perm tbh
