the misconception! people think !

who gives a fuck. THAT'S the problem and my point. putting too much stock in what outside forces believe and allowing them to define and redefine mess. cut it owt.
if ur whole problem and point is dealing with what white people think then ur way off mark.

Cuz that's not my main concern.

In case u haven't noticed a lot of black people subscribe to these misconceptions , and even create them.

I highly doubt Suzy coined the term "strong black woman" .

Of course she's saying the same thing, just not specifically about women.

There's so many misconceptions floating around about black people cuz everything is so SKRONG!

like people thinking kinky hair is the toughest SKRONGEST form of hair when its actually the most delicate and fragile of all hair types.

There's empowerment in strength but the issue is that black women are already masculinized enough as it is . First insult someone goes to with blk women usually is "bitch that's why u look like **insert unambiguously black MANs name here** "

I can see why many black women are pushing back on the phrase . If these preexisting issues werent in existence ...of course it'd be awesome to say "strong black woman!" All day and night .

And it's not about intent , because the intent when using that phrase is almost always pure and positive . It's about the idea that it supports and how that affects the women in our community .

it's basically about humanising black people
Damn we can be angry, scream and shout too?

yea and those blacks only subscribe to this idea because of how the term is perceived by... wait for it.... white people (or non-blacks at least.) because if that factor didn't exist, they wouldn't have an issue with the term

Oph Let's go back to my OP.

Here's my concern. It's not about white people lol
It's about protecting black women and how "strong black woman" can possibly get in the way of that .

And how it can get in the way of HELPING them.

I even bolded the word in my OP.

This is not about white people for me . So if that's what u been pushing back on since page 1 ...

Fnnfnffnfnnfnfn

My goal here kinda flew over ur head .

And if you can handle anything, do you really need protection? Help?

u made ur point clear

Ur referring to "outside forces" and what they believe ...

when I've been focused on what is an internal issue IMO .

Honestly it seems like u may be the one who needs to stop thinking about these "outside forces"  so we can have a more productive convo on what's an internal #protectblackwomen issue for me.

And focusing on how WE define and redefine things. Not Bob and Suzy

Removing white ppl from the equation, being labeled %u201Cstrong%u201D makes other Black ppl interact with you differently. They put more burdens on you, are less empathetic, more aggressive etc because you%u2019re %u201CSTRONG%u201D and can handle whatever it is more than others. I hear a lot of ppl saying %u201Ccheck on your strong friends%u201D because ppl really ignore them
