Quote from: FUCK Bey on Today at 02:56:17 PMIf something becomes a "classic," it has endured beyond its release context. Classics are literally timeless by definition. Yes, Britney is known for 2000s bubblegum pop, but she was literally the trailblazer of that sound.  :dead:

Brit CREATED the pop music trends, not followed them.
id agree she trailblazed the bubble gum pop tea

but britney def hopped on trends too

especially with Blackout. she did a great job of making trends her own

but she was def no stranger to trend hopping. and there's nothing wrong with that, she's a pop artist and that's what she is supposed to do.

stay hot and stay relevant

What pop girl was giving Blackout before Brit? Answer quickly

 :unbothered:

RAY7

even the 99-00s bubblegum pop
We had Spice Girls, BSB, N'Sync before the solo white girl Britney hopped on the wave, with a song that TLC turned down. She was never a creative artist she just was able to drop her music first before Xtina and Jessica

i was wondering if BSB n em came before Brit but was too lazy to verify

Britney still def did a great job of really introducing a very specific packaging of bubblegum pop

she clearly had her own lane and it was SUPER evident when people tried to come after her to copy it

no one can really say there was a britney before britney.

it was really the visual more than the music. Blonde teenage white girl who can dance and sing
The labels definitely rushed to throw out any Becky they could find after Britney blew up.
But if we're talking specifically about the music
Max Martin had already started making those pop songs before her

FUCK Bey

Chronology doesn't explain dominance and impact. Yes, teen pop existed before Britney. But she (her music) became the defining face of it. A "wave" is one thing but a cultural reset is another. Billboard literally named her debut the greatest debut single of all time.

Acting like visuals don't count in millennial pop is wild. :dead: Saying "it was just the visuals" in a pop debate is damn near like saying film is "just the cinematography." What is "Single Ladies" without the choreography?  What the hell is goddam Formation without the visuals? Or nearly any damn Beyonce hit.

FUCK Bey

Yall thought Infertile Ladies was a FOOL until the video.

Russian Fury

yeah I'd say packaging that Britney brought was important

not just cuz she was cute or pretty

but her voice, how she glided on songs....the whole "concept" of Britney

yeah there were people there piecing everything together but the same can be said for most artists - especially back then when "artist development" was huge.

they brought the talent/looks and were "molded" into "stars".

n
This isn't a pop debate. Britney sold her MUSIC catalog and we're discussing how "timeless" and trailblazing she was for her MUSIC to go for $200 Million
Also, I didn't say "visuals don't matter" they just matter more to Britney's success than her music did
