"cooning" usually implies at least some sort of forethought and awareness of what you're doing
Black Americans are still Americans ...which means we have sung that anthem for years.
maybe some people are not "woke" enough yet to realize how the optics of defending the integrity of the anthem may come off to some other people.
and honestly some could argue that being Black American, we have just as much right to take the integrity of the anthem seriously as anyone else. if a Black American loves the anthem, they are not inherently a "coon".
if that's the case, no one Black person should even identify as anything "American"-adjacent. No "Black American", no "African-American".
it's all about perceived intent. from what i've seen the focus has been on the art and the performance
not "defending the greatness of America and all of its Whitneness".
at Frank's big age I'd expect him to think a bit further before typing.
